Not to get off the subject, but a quick question- why does the car in the picture of the McIntosh have 2 fog light switches that are the same? Here in the US, one of those switches would be for the rear defog/rear view mirror defog. Is it a european car, and if so, don't the fog light switches look slightly different for the front and rear fog lights? Wouldn't all three switch spots be used in that case, or is rear defog not standard on some cars? Just curious..sorry to change the subject, but didn't want to start a new discussion thread for a quick answer...

Andrew,

I beleive one is for the front and the other the rear (fog lights), just a guess though.

The fog light **** on the left is a "dummy" switch... For the coupe, this would be for the rear window defogger and for the cabriolet this would be for the rear-view mirror defogger, I believe...

The Speedster has neither...

I believe it would still have a rear window defog/rear view mirror switch with that "pictograph" on it. I have a cab, and I still have a rear window defog switch, but its really only for the outside rear view mirrors. Now I'm curious....maybe his switch broke for rear defog when he was putting that Mcintosh in, and he bought the wrong switch to replace it- ha! Now I'm curious though....

I had an Alpine in dash cd player installed with a built in 4x60 watt amp. That powers MB Quarts all the way around. I then put in a self amplified 10 inch bazooka in the bonnet. You can feel every bit of bass even through the fire wall. Awesome.

Hi

On wendsday I´ll get installed for the front some Focal Polykevlar speakers to change the JBL, also I´ll get an Alpine amp. for under the passenger seat, for the subwoofer I´ll still wait and see if the sound will be enough...I also need to perform other modifications before.

Thanks
ALEX

Yesterday I picked up the car with the new Focal Polykevlar Speakers for the front and the Alpine Amplifier under the passangers seat...What a different compared to the old ones....

The next step will be the Subwoofer behind the seats, but that will have to wait a couple of months, Flywheel <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> , brakes and suspension is first.

Thank you all for your comments and help.

Audio Upgrade.

Mine started with changing the speakers to MD Quart component 6 1/4 in front, These have plain grills and do not look very different to the original speakers which was my goal. I left the original tweeters also connected as I find with CD stuff particularly you can really bring the sound stage forward. Much deeper sound almost sounding acceptable.

I also decided after lots of thinking that the rear speakers no matter what had to go as they were a waste of time. Being 12 years old on a back shelf with sun shinning on them (albeit not that often in England)you will find the material in the paper cones may have started to break down.

The trauma got worse when the Hi Fi specialists said I would never get any real bass from a speaker that size. And nobody he know done a speaker this size with grills anyhow. Had to be plain black.

To Sub or Not to Sub was the question? Having got my Porsche 6 months before the birth of our first child now a year old, taking up the rear footwell space would only mean problems in a few years so the Sub idea was also thrown out.

After heart ache I decided they was only one thing for it which would mean the back shelf needed to be cut. (Painfull idea) However again i went for MB Quart components 6 X 9 these have a smaller magnet than many 6X9 speakers and fractionally shallower depth. Again the MB Quart grills look like original equipment plain black ( Just bigger)
Well I am very happy with the sound, great bass and the look of them on the back does not look anything like my fears had imagined. I would go as far to say i quite like the look now.

If you go for 6X9s it means getting your cut just right as space is tight so get a good fitting shop to do it. You have the rear wiper moter and bits. Make sure your choice has small magnet 3" across or less and a depth of 2.75" or less or they wont sit in properly. My car is a 964 turbo.I presume under shelf is the same for all 964s (Well if you want to save time trying out different types at least you know that the MB Quart range will fit) M DB Quart

I will do the pictures of speakers and post.

My next issue was that My Porsche had a factory upgrade to Sony Head Unit & AMPs & 10Disk autochanger the size of a house taking up the boot/trunk.

Well i liked the sound even though this was 12 year old kit, it cost the first owner of the car loads of ££££s.

Sony no longer done any adapters that would allow me to fit a smaller CD Changer and I had issues with having Japanesse head units in a German car. (Porsche anyhow)

SONY HEAD UNIT

SONY CHANGER IN BOOT.

After much thought and research I decided the Blaupunkt was the way forward as most modern units were lit up like Christmas trees and I needed to get something to complement the car interior as well as sound good.

Choose a St Louis head unit and autochanger. I think you can still get very similar models.

Well CD Changer fits under Boot Carpet fixed from underneath to MDF board in space of Spare Wheel Rim. Shelf lifts up with carpet and CD Changer if you need to get the spare wheel out, get to battery etc.

This is a picture of the head unit in dash (only half installed as I was waiting on some preamp connectors at the time of picture.) It will give you an idea of look although the detachable face is not clicked in fully I just noticed.

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Blaupunkt002.jpg" alt=" - " />

This unit has the buttons etc light up in a creame/white color which matches the dash and other porsche fittings plus orange in the display area.

Recommended. I am running with the two Sony Amps that were instaled under the drivers seat as I do not want the trouble of removing the seat yet.
I may upgrade to a Blaupunkt four way AMP as i am convinced even middle of the road current amps may be better sound than 12 year old Sony technology.

I was thinking about upgrading, too, but I am going in a different direction: my '90 C4 was optioned with a Blaupunkt Reno, but a previous owner replaced it with a very ugly Alpine. However, there just happened to there was a Blaupunkt Reno in perfect condition listed on eBay last week, so I bid on it. Unfortunately, someone else got it, so i'm looking at, perhaps, a newer model Blaupunkt without all those neon lights. Any suggestions, or should I look for another Reno on eBay?
