Distriubutor mod for ozone related belt wear
Adrian probably can answer this is seconds - I've '92 964 Tip. Will teh distributor already be vented or will it need the mod. There are no plasic pipes coming from either distributor, bot I notice that the lower of the two (on RHS) has a little rectangular hole near the base. Is this a vent?? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Dear John,
It will need the mod installed. No pipe coming out of base to plumbing, you have to install it and I recommend you make this a priority. The hole is a vent but useless unless the vent kit is installed. There is no flow of air inside without the vent kit,

John,
My C2 is also a 93 version - it does have the venting system. It's easy to check at the left side of the engine bay there should be 'transparent plastic' pipes running to the distributor.

Spoke to my specialist - he thought not to bother!
Where is the kit available from. Is it a DIY or a dealer job?? Is it coverd by Porsche warranty at all or by my own wallet??

You should be able to get this from your local specialist, the problem is I don't know of any up North. Are Stuttgart Connection near you?
Anyway the kit costs about £12 and will take a mechanic around 15mins to fit. It is worthwhile doing as soon as possible.
If you get problems, let me know I may be able to get you some details of an outfit that may sell you one and mail it you.

Dear John,
You tell your specialist to write that down on paper with a guarantee that he will pay for ALL the engine damage caused when the secondary distributor belt breaks if the rotor stops inthwe wrong position.
The kit John will set you back no more than 20 pounds and there are quite a few sites, John Miles for one that have the simple procedure to install it.
Your specialist is not much of a specialist if he says do not do it. I would love to know his name so we can be assured to bypass his company. At least we know why in the UK so many 964s never had this simple modification carried out. Whilst some of us have argued in the past over the probability of the potential damage, if you are unlucky, you WILL, fairly quickly, burn a hole in the top of the piston and this is just not worth the risk for such a cheap fix. When was the distributor belt last replaced?

The specialists are really very good in every other area. I'm am surprised by their attitude on this one, since they are really very knowledgable in all areas, even the ones that don't make them wads of cash!!
I will do the mod myself, and suggest they 'pull their heads in' as we say in Oz ( though I live in UK my blood is Green & Gold!).
Thanks for help.

Distributor vent kit arrived this morning - £6 from Type 911.
For DIY purposes, can anyone suggest preferred method for drilling hole into rear blower duct for the pipe??
DON'T say "drill a hole of the appropriate size"!!
