Angry Aero/Teardrop/Cup Mirror Disassembly

Okay, with the help of IrishDriver from another post, I have removed the mirror glass from my Aero/Teardrop/Cup mirrors (gotta make sense to those guys across the pond ).

NOW...I can't figure out how to separate the mount/pedestal from the main housing!!??

I have had FLAG style mirrors (the ones that John Miles just LOVES ) apart, all you do is just unscrew the large spring-loaded bolt with a LARGE flat-tip screwdriver...

...but it doesn't seem the Aero/Teardrop/Cup mirrors come apart the same way!??

Is it possible these bolts are just corroded in place?? ...or am I just a WUS??

I want to paint them TOTALLY disassembled, yup, another one of those "****-retentive" desires.

If you think that's bad, you should see the whole damned car!! ...or lack thereof!!

I think I'm the only person I know that removed the interior/soundproofing so the inside of the shell could be painted!! ...should've went for that Speed -or- Fly Yellow conversion while I had the chance.

I'm with the WUS theory....

Why can't you just paint the damn thing stand and all? that is what is done here and everyone is Happy !!!

Actually It's a while since I looked indside the mirrors but my neighbour needs the wiring connected on his cup mirror update soon so I'll look then ....if you can wait.

... did you clean behind your ears when you were a kid?

Anybody else know how to separate the pedestal from the main housing??

...remember, these are the Aero/Teardrop/Cup mirrors I'm referring to, NOT the flag style.

IrishDriver, if you get a chance to check it out in the next few days, that would be great, we plan to shoot on Thurs. possibly Friday at the latest.

...and YES, I DID clean behind my ears as a kid there IrishDriver, even kept my room clean...figure I'm just PERFECT for P-Car ownership - eh??

Jeff;

I made a tool to collapse the spring to seperate the base from the mirror body. Basically you use 1" copper tubing/washer and a large C-Clamp. Works like a champ! Email me.

Sorry this week is not possible -

Thursday: Paris - work,
Friday: Retro Classics in Stuttgart,
Saturday: build 356 engine....

My Porsche has been driven all winter and gets a wash in March wheither it needs it or not. Does this mean I'm a bad Porsche owner?

P.S. I never tidied my room
