Power Steering Noise

Power Steering Noise
I have owned a 90 964 C2 for a year now. A few weeks ago I took it to an autocross and noticed a growling noise from the power steering pump after each run. It was only present after finishing the course and returning to idle. It only lasted a minute or so. The fluid level looks correct. Anybody else experience this? Is this something to worry about?

Gerald;
I'm assuming that the oil level is okay? Have you drained and renewed the power steering oil lately? If the oil is dark brown, it need to be flushed and renewed.

Dear Gerald,
I think you may have overheated the pump/oil on your autocross. This is not uncommon. Remember you are working the thing hard. I also do not know what wheels and tyres you are running but wider means more stress.
If it gets worse I would change the oil but I think this will only mask the noise. Eventually you will need to rebuild the pump. This is one price of autocrossing and other track events. Failures are quite rare but they do happen,
