Question What's this switch for!!!

Can anyone help me with the function of this switch?

I assume it is some sort of after-market security device?

Hi,
On the original alarms fitted to UK cars (by hamilton & palmer) this disables the interior sensors.

Thanks - that makes sense - particularly on a cabriolet. How is the system armed - I have a Porsche branded plug-in style immobiliser key, and a Spal keyfob (remote central locking) which I am unsure if there is an alarm system for.

I have sensors on each side of the dashboard in the corners - which are clearly the ultrasonic sensors.

That's harder to answer.

When I bought my car, I had the original alarm which was tied into the door locks (with remote central locking + total closure) and had ultrasonic sensors on the rear parcel shelf. Didn't have any on the front I don't think. I had an immobiliser - but I'm not convinced that was original.

But I've seen other people say they have the original alarm but don't have remote locking / don't have total closure so there seem to be variations.

With yours, I would expect it to be tied to your remote keyfob but if that's the case it doesn't sound like it's the original anymore?

I was told my original alarm wasn't much cop these days and had a new cat 1 alarm installed. The nicest thing about that - the immobiliser is handled by the keyfob so I no longer have to stick immobiliser key in immobiliser hole every time I want to drive off.

I thought that switch was something to do with the total closure system - I have a blank where it should be (and no total closure), and a totally remote PA1000 alm/immob which I was under the impression was o/e from 1989.

I would love to know if I could re-instate my total closure system.

This is proving more interesting than I first thought...I'm going to test tonight what the switch does. I'll try closing the roof, setting of the sensors etc.

(Dave - my sensors are on the dash because the cabriolet doesn't have a rear shelf)

I'll report again when I've tested.
