New speedo face with KPH as well as MPH?
My KPH speedo is starting to show it's age in that when it's dark & you have the lights on, you can see holes in the black paint.
I would like to replace the face with another black one, but would like it not just to show KPH, but also MPH. Does anyone know if these are available? I want to keep the main reading as KPH.
Has anyone takled replacing the face themselves & if so how easy is it?

Dear Andy,
Yes they are available. I recently saw a US version 1990 C2 (parked in my park platz)with one fitted. You wil have to check around though to find one. They are a direct replacement for your existing unit. Connector off the back, pull out speedo, re-intall new unit and reconnect connector. Simple job.

Adrian

Hi Andy,
There's a Co. in the "911 & Porsche World" magazine advertising that they specialise in VDO gauges in the UK. They called "RAD" tel. 02088632305
Theres also another but based in California website: www.paspeedo.com
I would suggest calling all the P-car breakers and buy a second-hand unit approx. £150.
Cheers

What I'm after just a new guage face! My speedo is currently a KPH only version. I know you can get MPH with KPH & odometer in Miles versions, but can you get KPH with MPH & odometer in KM? I'd like to keep the origional speedo if possible.
Has anyone "cracked" the speedo to replace just the dial face? Is this possible/illegal?!

Andy - as Adrian noted, US model cars have the speed in MPH, with an "inner ring" of numbers indicating KPH.
Replacing the entire speedometer is problematic for the reason that you noted - it makes your odometer reading suspect.
The black coating on the speedometer in my car was doing the same thing that you mentioned - cracking and peeling. It's apparently a pretty common failure, and for some reason only seems to affect the speedometer (not any of the other gauges).
To answer you question , yes you can have an instruments shop refinish just the surface of your speedometer (and not replace the whole thing). In my case, I was looking for an excuse to have all of the gauges redone in white, so I had the surfaces of all of my gauges "silk screened" in white by North Hollywood Speedometer, Inc. ( www.nhspeedo.com - no affiliation). Since you're in the UK, you may want to try the instrument shop referenced above.
Good luck!

andy, you may want to try www.nrauto.com, you have to get the complete set, done this myself with my KMH only gauges, now I can see how quickly I'm going without trying to convert KMH to MPH!!!!
