Post What does your wife / Husband / Girlfriend / Boyfriend think about your Porsche

This could be a very interesting Topic, in my case my wife "hates" the car actually she doesn´t really like cars. But I bought the car 2 years ago to his uncle with the condition of never selling it (the price was a bargain 12.000 Euros for a 90 C4 with 50.000 real Km. Since I purchase it I,ve been trying to fix whatever look old or needed replacement.

The good thing is that her father has the same car (same year, same model, other options but with 25.000 real Km). Problem he is also not a car fan. My only ally is her uncle who sold me the car and bought a 996TT which we are right now making some mods, ECU, Fabspeeds, BOV´s and K&N.

To get the mods done to my car I must almost have to hide from her.

What are your experiences, maybe we can learn from each other to get our projects done... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Hi Alex

My girlfriend utterly hates it big time. She thinks it's just a huge money pit (no argument - it is!) and that the money is much better spend on her at Tiffanys

She also thinks that the ride is to hard, the engine is too loud and wants me to trade it for a BMW - ha! no chance. She also thinks it makes me drive to fast and complains if I drive more than 5 mph over the limit - Sheesh!!

Simple solution, I've learnt that I shouldn't tell her what I spend on it, and she happy thinks it just carries on running without any money spent and everyone is happy.

my girlyfriend loves to ride in the car...I'm NOT so sure how she feels about me spending HOURS working on it!

I was married, she hated the car, hated me working on it...but MOST of all, hated the $$$$$$$ invested on it.

Where's a happy medium??

I find that a lot of women don't have hobbies that could engulf them, "taking them away" for hours on end...that's just what I'VE found. I'm not saying "WOMEN DON'T HAVE HOBBIES", it's just that there are several I've dated, and one I was married to that didn't seem to have any to speak of.

My solution: FIND a woman who can wield a set of Craftsman wrenches as well, even better than YOU!

...even better, find a RICH woman who can do that, then start a RACING TEAM!! <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />

GT3, here I come!! <img border="0" alt="[burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

As I said my wife hates the car specially for the hard drive and a bit for the $$$ I had a problem with the car suddenly the car seemed as if no petrol was comming in and sometimes suddenly you stayed on a traffic light without any power, suddenly it made a backfire and continue working perfetly (before Rennlist I was going to to Porsche Dealer and that meant big $$ but without results) but to a point she understands that is a hobby for me.

My wife just reminds me that someday I have to grow up I can't find 'someday' on the calendar.
She can't drive a manual transmission and has no desire to learn
She has been in each of my Porsches once and after each drive her only comment was "as long as you like the way it drives"

I am young and single, so not a worry in the world about it!

My last girlfriend (6 years!) liked the car, though she would have been just as happy in a BMW or Cherokee. She did like me having a 'nice' hobby though and never complained about me spending money on it. Hold on, why did we break up...?

My girlfriend has a 944 - which is what got me looking at Porsches. But her view of my car :

I spend too much money on it (true)
I talk about it too much (true)
It makes me drive aggresively (not true!)
I drive too fast in it (not true!)
It's difficult to drive (heavy clutch)

She actually prefers to be a passenger on my (very) uncomfortable motorcycle. She didn't even complain when I accidentally wheelied at about 70mph (truly was an accident).

It all started some 20 yrs. ago with a "69 911 that ultimately required work on just about everything you could imagine. It was reluctanly accepted by the wife, it amused the kids who were then 13 and 8.
Wife once drove it on a sunny Saturday and came back with comments about how she liked the attention paid to her by other drivers. Both my daughter and son learned to drive in a 911 as it required clutch and shifting. They enjoyed 'borrowing ' it once and a while to drive to HS.
There's been three others counting the present 964 and this is the first that prompted wife to take it for a drive ten minutes after she first saw it.
My son will still 'borrow' it when I'm away for a few days. He and friends quietly admire it but won't openly admit it to the old man.
My 7 yr. old grand daughter absolutely loves it. Last summer on a visit here from Las Vegas, I found her in the car one day behind the wheel having one of her imaginary journeys. It was priceless. When traveling with her, she always wants to take the 'red car'.
Her father would love to play with it but he found it too difficult to drive with his big feet. I think my daughter made too much fun of him that night they took it on a night out and she wound up driving home.
At this point, it's like a part of the family. I would sum it up as being akin to bringing home an orphaned pooch, cleaning it up and watching everyone slowly accept it and ultimately learn to like it. I, alone seem to have known all along the merits of the beast.

Nice analagy, Fred.

My wife loves our car, because it is dark in colour over a light interior (she is a designer), and because it is, err.. 'cool'.

She hates it because it makes me agressive - well maybe, but why won't those f**ing Nissan Micra pilots, lost in their own little worlds, get the hell out of the fast lane? Also because I allegedly drive too fast - 92mph is just fine, but 100mph means certain death, apparently. Sigh. She doesn't get the speed-is-a-factor-in-only-7%-of-accidents thing. She doesnt get the-safest-knife-is-a-sharp-knife thing.

She loves to drive it because of the comfort and performance, but hates the attention from local rednecks in Vauxhall Novas (why do they never buy something with rearwheel drive?)and the overly 'cash-transferred' ricers. "Duhh.. Blonde in a 911, must overtake so she can see my 5 inch exhaust tip"

But, even though we are expecting our first baby, she knows that amongst all the crap we have to buy, a Porsche child seat is going to be necessary too..and that's why I married her.

The girl I'm currently seeing doesn't say very much about my car though she finds the attention amusing.

My ex used to love 911's and often stated very matter of factly that she would own one long before I grew up enough to get a proper job and be able to afford one.

The day I bought the car I rang her up for the first time in months just to let her know the good news

My wife loves the cars. When we first met i had an RS America. I sold that to buy a 993 C2s big mistake. She actually got pissed and liked the RS better. We had to sell the C2s to buy a bigger home. We replaced that with an 87 targa. But about 1 month ago my wife said even though she loves the targa, it would be nice to "step back up to the plate." SO yesterday we finally found an 89 turbo. We were looking for another RS America but the premium over the regular 964's was too much in my opinion. This turbo came along and we decided to go for it. She drove it last night after i got it home. Lets just say she is a better passenger. Either way she supports my addiction.

My wife loves our C2 Turbo, but she does not like to ride in it much. She has a history of motion sickness and thus does not like cars much in general. She loves the way the widebody looks, however. She comments that it is the best looking Porsche, especially the rear.

We attend the local Porsche club events regularly, but she likes the non-drive events more. Almost everytime we went for a twisty drive, she got sick for hours after we got home. She is not a car person, but she is okayed with me having 3 cars to play with.

Jay Leno once said, "People in Hollywood have 1 car and many wives, I have one wife with many many cars." I tell my wife this all the time.

My wife Gail say the C4 is the best auto we have ever owned. She take sit to work every now and again. It is hers whenever she wants it or needs it. She does not normally like driving fast but she makes an exception in the Porsches. When we went out in the RCT Evo she said it was better than using cosmetics to get rid of the wrinkles.

My girlfriend really likes it as long as I am not "driving crazy." Now who of us would do that? Other than that she just keeps pestering me as to when is she going to get to drive it.

I've had two Porsches in 16 years. I was considering selling my car and learning to fly. I think my wife prefers me to keep the car....
