My wife loves it, we took it to Hershey and had a great time on the road despite the rain. She has ideas for other road trips south to see the kids (Richmond, VA) and maybe down to the Outer Banks to hang out at the beach. Not much arm twisting going on here.

My girl friend says she loves my 964 Turbo but I think if we got married I would get presure to sell it. 40k would make a nice down payment on a house. I'm currenlty looking to sell my daily driver and get a 944, i'm calling it "The test" to see how she reacts.

My wife did not say much but I know both she an dmy daughter do not like it much. Too noisy and uncomfortable, I guess! ( Honey, why don't we use the Mercede instead and Oh no not the Posche again ! kind of gave away their feelings!)

My friends liked to talk about it before I got it and now they would not say a word about Porsche 911.

That's why I can only talk here in this Web Page!!!!!

I guess I am lucky. My wife isn'r really interested in cars. That is until I mentioned that instead of buying a new Jappanneese car I could also buy a Porsche 911. I happened to have my eye on a beautifull yellow 911 cabrio. To my surpise she reacted very positive (so even after 15 years of marriage you can still be surprised).

It even gets better! The car wasn't very well maintainted and converted from a coupe. Blinded as I was I saw only the looks. My wife however said "If you want to buy a Porsch spend more and buy a good one."

Which I did. I now own a near perfect 964 midnight metallic blue C4 coupe. So for me she's the #1 (closely followed by the porsche of course).

When we bought the car in 96, my wife absolutely loved it, because I drove ALL THE TIME!

I love it because she doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission, and there are no back seats.

However, since the arrival of the kids, she has occasionally hinted I should sell it and buy something else, something more kid friendly (read 4 seats).

I've told her repeatedly that the extended cab pickup carries the kids just fine.

On the plus side, she doesn't complain when I spend hours working on the car, prepping it for track events, or returning it to street configuration upon return.

Here's what the kids think of the car:

Sonny - get her some Dramanine, I have to use that when I go out on boats, or am a passenger with a lively driver!

Since I didn't see any women posting, I just had to toss in my .02. I personally prefer to drive, that way I never get the motion sickness. But if a woman or a man that you are dating cannot stand your car, then that's a relationship breaker...how do I know? You can hunt down a thread where we gave stories on our Porsches. I lost my 1st Porsche due to an exfiance who traded it in on a lease on a Ford Explorer to cover the hot check he had written the dealership!

That traumatized me so much I moved out within the year, and left a 7 year relationship. He had other issues (bad check writing) and I just couldn't live my life that way. I have to do it honestly, or no dice.

So here I am 5 years after losing the first and have acquired another. Now I have the opposite problem you guys have, my boyfriend hates driving a stick! So he never asks to drive her. I wouldn't let him until I get the clutch replaced, he would mess up the gears.

But now I know where you guys are coming from on the cars: He's SICK of hearing about Porsches from me, and freaked when I told him I have to get my old one back, or a 951. But I found his weakness - 928s. He'd be happy with one in an automatic, but I warned him about the upkeep.

So, we have an agreement, and since I'm the one that takes care of the cars anyway, well he can't complain too much to me. At least the deal we have is that I get to spend the same amount of money as we did on buying and fixing his Eagle Talon...he just forgot how much I personally put into it, and had to remind him, ie, alarm, good stereo with removeable faceplate, tires, new timing belts, etc. He's actually happy with the car, so I'm focusing on my car now.

So if any of you have a girlfriend that wants you to get rid of your Porsche, RUN! Run away! I was sorry for a long time.

But I am heartened to hear so many that have wives and girlfriends that have joined in racing and such. So heartwarming!

I'm sure you'll hear from Pat and Michelle on this, and maybe Slinky - they are a few of the other gals on the board with me.

My wife loves the car, what she doesn't love is all the attention and money I throw at the 964. I get interrogated like Greg Focker in Meet the Parents.

Wife wanted me to get the car i wanted "as we aren't on this planet forever" she says. Going to do another track day at the Nurburgring and Spa next year with her, She loves it. Its like everything else in a relationship, it just takes a little give and take...

She says it has to be running right, which is the green light to spend some cash, i am one lucky guy, and she likes football!!

My wife of 20 years is actually the one who inspired me to buy our first Porsche. It was her idea again which prompted me in buying the 2nd Porsche. It's her idea not to sell them but keep them for our children. We're talking about the 3rd Porsche already.

The only negativity is the time spent in the garage working on them and the constant upgrade or $$$ spent to maintain them. Then again for my birthday this year, she bought me a complete garage workbench with individual storage cabinets to match. (Maybe I can swing a lift while I'm at it.)

Great thread....

After desiring a 911 since i was about 4 years old, and in the interim owning everything BUT my dream car, my wonderful wife was the one who actually told me to go and buy what I REALLY want. This was after me summoning up the courage to ask her if we could consider getting a Boxster.
We both previously owned MX5's (Miata's) and this seemed like a logical progression but she advised me that if I got a Boxster, everytime a 911 would drive past my heart would drop and she was dead right. Maybe the house full of 911 books, magazines and toy cars gave it away, or the fact that I could tell what year any 911 was when it drove past regardless of whether I actually 'saw' the car or not.

The two clinchers which I still find funny and result in my mates wives just roll their eyes.

Firstly,
a 911 IS a family car. At the end of the race season, i take out my RS leather fixed back buckets and replace with normal 911 seats and pop the babyseat in the back. We then go on drives up to the hills, down the beach and on the occasional Porsche Club run.

Secondly, it makes financial sense.

The other choices were newish M3 BMW's etc and they would have all lost 50% in depreciation in the last three years whilst my Porsche has actually increased 50% in value.

I really feel so sorry for those guys you see often standing on the corner of the road, envy in their eyes when you drive past, knowing or more often than not 'thinking' that their wife would never let them have their dream. A good wife and friend understands the importnace for boys to have their toys just as they have their own dreams. Many guys never think to broach the subject assuming their wives will say no.

And just 'cause you have kids, do you really NEED two bloody X5's or Tourag's. Nope, One Family lugger and one 911 is the perfect family garage.

That said, EVERY Porsche owner needs a secret VISA for all those mods you swore you'd never need!

Mine likes the fact that I have the car but does not ride in in much. All her friends seem to know about it so I guess there is a bit of a prestige factor for her.

She gets motion sickness pretty badly so there is no 'fun' when she is in the car which is very rare anyway I think she knows it has cost more than I have let on but then again she can shop like no other woman I know!

The car was on the scene before we got married which is not a bad thing although she has never pressured me to sell it.

I guess I'm lucky, my wife is German, loves cars and spent her life on the Autobahn. She loves 911's (especially the air cooled), and knows a ton about Porsche parts. Her only complaint is that we don't have enough P cars!!
