External appearance of DMF
Tomorrow I'm having transmission opened for clutch replacement. I'm very concerned about DMF, but my car came with no detailed history (3 owners, 2 plate chenges, import from Gemany to Italy and so on...). Is there a way to know if the flywheel on my C4 is still the original one, or if it has been upgraded do a LUK or if it's still a Fraudenberg but replaced recently? In an old post (I didn't find it by searching but I remember it) someone talked about bolted vs welded starter gear. Is it true? If I've got a Fraudenberg, has it got a serial number, or something similar to be compared with VIN to check if flywheel came with the car or was later replaced?
Sorry for posting again about a topic which has been discussed thousands of times, but I'm having a 1600Euros job most of which are for engine drop time, I don't even want to think I may hear a clunking noise as soon as I exit my mechanic's garage!! --> --> -->
Thanks all

Emanuele, the flywheel will be stamped Freudenburg or LUK, while the clutch is out, look for the identification on the flywheel.
I don't remember whether the starter ring is welded on either one of them...but I do remember someone mentioning that.
I replaced my dual mass POS the second day I owned the car...had a "Cup" lightweight clutch/flywheel setup waiting on the workbench.
Your mechanic should be able to identify which unit is installed as well...or he shouldn't be working on your car!!!

The LUK has the welded on starter ring. The part number ends -02 as well. It should also say LUK somewhere,
