Safe RPM's?
I have read some threads on "overreving" because of missed shifts that sound disasterous and heartbreaking.
I got me thinking as what is a safe RPM limit on a stock 964 motor. I have a Weltmeister chip so the cutoff may have been raised over stock.
Just curious.

It's that red area on your tach - don't go there.
What you have read about, no electronic rev limiter would have saved. Engaging a lower gear at high speed is going to take the engine (valve train) beyond its mechanical limit.

JBH is 100% correct. Downshift overspeeds are not protected against. Called Bad Luck. What people with aftermarket chips need to remember is that they have no rev limit going up either. Stay below 6700 and you will be okay as long as you keep your engine maintained properly, which is more than just changing the oil,

Thanks.
I thought there might be an "overengineered" margin here as I have found myself charging right into the limiter prior to the chip install. I will keep a close eye on it.
