Question Changing Wheels - stud marked in red???

I bought some new 17 inch wheels and just installed them. I noticed that one stud on each wheel was marked in red. Does this mean anything?

I checked my 964 repair manuals and the only thing of note it mentioned was to install the wheel lock nut across from the valve.

The wheels are on but I haven't driven the car yet. Please let me know if you have any idea what the red stud indicates. Thanks.

When you install your wheel make sure you position the valve stem directly across from the painted red stud. Good Luck

To make that a little more clear - you position the air valve AT the red stud. Not across from it.

Hello

The position depends on the used rim. Fuchs have it oppesite to Cup.

The marked stud should also receive the lock.

Okay, I re-read the repair manuals. As Roland said, the locking nut goes on the red stud. For CUP wheels only, the valve is installed opposite the red stud. For all other style wheels, the valve is installed nearest the red stud.

I've got the locking nut in the wrong place, but at least I won't have to rotate the wheels since the valve is in the right place.

Thanks for the help.

Hello

Ups this was the 964 board so fuchses are not normal. To deconfuse:

All pre 993 lock nuts had a slight overwight and on critical cars the wheels got balanced on the axle so it was important to know and rematch the position after a maintance.
On 993 on or with 993 locks you don´t have to take care on the postion from the lock.

But some tire/rim combos could still be a bit shaky and recieved a on axle match and so you normaly keep the habbit.

A other "old tradition" to turn the crest showing to the valve steem so you can find it easier on deeper dished fuchs. ( at least it shows a proud or careing mechanic ).

Those who concours will also lose points for not having the crest point to the valve stem, after you have jacked up the car to perfectly align all of the crests prior to concours.
