Post 964 headlight upgrade....

We had a new porsche join the family yesterday, a 1992 C2 Turbo, and the one complaint is the headlights. How many on the board have done headlight up grades, and if so which have shown to be the best?

Just looking for some ideas...

thanks so much...

Welcome to the family, Ian. Nice car, your Turbo. How about a picture?

Most folks who do a headlight upgrade go the Eupopean H4 route, a few the H1 route, if you can find them.

Do a search on the archives, you will find quite a few references to headlights and H4s.

nothing much to add to scupper. I am running H-1s. Far superior to OEM H-5s

Ian - "mean" looking car. Can't tell with the black color and shadows - - has it been lowered? If not, you might want to consider that - new H&R springs and Bilstein shocks seem to be a favorite combination, and the one I am having done tomorrow - - - well maybe not tomorrow after all. Depends - we are getting hammpered with 12 to 24 inches of snow today!

In any event, you will see quite a few threads on suspension upgrades as well in the archives.

Will you keep your 951 or sell it? Be interesting to hear your comparision of the two turbos.

It is Moss Green, and it has not been lowered, H&R's, some new wheels, and headlights are the plans for the not too distant future.

Very Nice Car! Welcome to the 964 family.

I've got both H1's and H4s. Currently I'm running H4's and (a) they are a great improvement over H5's - both in light and looks and (b)I cannot tell that much difference over my H1's.

Note that other topics discussed before are higher power bulbs (which require relays) and changing out to, what I think are called HID, lights and bulbs - but I'm not sure anyone has actually done that with success.

For point of reference - a pair of new H4's go for something like $200 on eBay - you'll need the AJ-USA wiring kit which goes for $8-10 or so (AJ-USA are excellent but the shipping if you just but the wiring kit is expensive so watch that).

Finally if you go with H4s or H5's you'll need to think about trim rings - right now I've got chrome H4's (I kinda like the look), but I also bought the trim rings and had them painted to match (the H5 trim ring does not fit the H4's) again eBay is a good source for the trim rings - they go for about $50 a pair and mine cost me $100 to have painted in polar silver metallic. You'll also need the male and female inner and outer screws for the ring and the H4/H1's.

Hope that helps

Enjoy
