Unhappy Shunted up the backside in London!

I posted this in the 993 forum as well

It just had to happen...
Waiting at a roundabout yesterday and OUCH! What the heck was that?
Bumpers been pushed down and is touching the exhaust.
A big gap between rear reflector, lights, and wings and bumper.
No idea on the internal damage. (to the car I mean)

Obviously still upset.

So its decision time. Who should repair it?
An independent who will do a good job. (Already know the independent if I go that way)
or Porsche approved bodyshop who offer a lifetime guarantee. Im considering. Premier or Solus (both near London) though Ive heard some not so nice things about Solus.

Such a hassle.

Value you opinions folks.
Thanks

Bins sorry to hear about your misfortune. I've no idea of a good bodyshop, but you might want to read this thread, from a US 964er who was rear-ended recently.

It's probably not as bad as you think. From the way you described it I bet just the rear bumper reinforcement shock tubes are bent down. The body is probably fine.

Hi Bins,
I recently (last October) got rearended, myself. If you could post a picture it might be easier to give some assesment of what has happened. The bumper has three outer sections, each with a flimsy aluminum heat shield underneath. Also, the bumper has an aluminum crossmember that will have to be replaced if it absorbed any impact. If the hit was low enough, you should be in fairly good shape. Mine was just above the bumper, about at the height of the lights, and it messed her up pretty good. I'd be more than willing to answer any questions you might have (that I know the answers to). Good luck!

Im considering. Premier or Solus
Premier did my rear screen seal a while back, and I asked them to quote for a complete respray at the time; the guy who looked over the car seemed very knowledgable but I can't imagine how he could have done more to make me feel like my car wasn't worthy of their services. When I picked the car up they kept me waiting 15 minutes and asked me to sign that I was happy with the work before showing me the car. I've no idea how good the paintshop is but I'm not rushing back. I'm going to try Langley Autocraft, near to JZM.
Hope you get it sorted.

Bins,

That looks as though the bumper has done it's job well. You probably won't know the extent of the problem though without having it removed. Can you see any creases in hthe rear wings?

The rear wings seem to look okay but it will probably need more of an expert to really notice.

I suppose more than anything I am concerned about using an approved body shop instead of an independent, ie will they do a good job in the first place.

You're probably thinking just use the independent then.
Well its just that that the Porsche approved bodyshop supposedly has a lifetime guarantee so if they miss something during the repair and its not noticed till sometime later, at least theres comeback.

If you were brave enough this is a DIY. You probably just need new bumper shocks. Have at it!

To some extent who does the repair depends on whose paying. If it's the insurance company then Porsche all the way. It will help in resale.

If you are paying then get an independant to do it. I wouldn't lose my no claims over that and since we are not talking megabucks cars it simply isn't worth spending a fortune on cosmetic damage.
