Post Throttle pedal attachment

I had to prise my throttle pedal apart from its linkage to fit a new piece of carpet. Now the ball joint won't refit no matter how hard I push.

The remainder of the socket on the back of the pedal is pretty well flush with the surface, but does look as if it has a slight 'rim' to it.

Did I break some of the socket when I separated the link, or do I need to push still harder to reattach it?

You have to push pretty hard to reattach the ball back into the socket. Try putting some sort of lubrication on the ball, then use vice grips or something similar to hold the linkage firmly in place while you push the throttle pedal. It would be pretty difficult to reattach without using a tool to hold the linkage.

Good luck,
Drew

I've tried pushing so that the linkage is 'compressed'. I then push harder and everything moves back about another inch. I then push with just about all the force I can manage (whilst twisted around and upside down), but I'm worried I might damage something behind the floorboard if I push any harder - what do you think?

The again - maybe the top of the pedal was hitting the 'stop' as I pushed
I'll go check after I've eaten - wouldn't that be embarrassing?!

Here's a picture.
It doesn't show anything of note, but I'm always interested to see bits of other peoples' 964s, so maybe you are too!

All fixed now.

It's amazing how many times I've struggled with a problem, only to find the solution when I walk away and 'forget' about it for a while or, especially, sleep on it.

John, the best way is to grab the linkage part with your left hand and push with your right, it is a hard "snap" to get it in there...but make sure that you have the ball lined up with the socket and not one of the "X" patterns on the rear of the pedal...Lord knows I've done that a few times!

Don't use any lubrication, it's plastic and not necessary.

The reason I use my left hand to hold the linkage firmly is because I don't want the force of my efforts to bend the bellcrank assembly down in the pedal box...I've actually broken the weld on one before.
