Post Bugger again

I have no intermittent wash-wipe and spent three hours yesterday taking apart (and putting back together) my indicator/windscreen washer switch.

I now have intermittent wash wipe.

But high beam doesn't work anymore. Hmmm.

Oops! - I meant to say 'I'm terribly sorry to hear this. It's dreadful!'

Somehow, it came out as -

No, really, I really am sorry for you!

While we're on topic, my washers have gone mad. They decide when they want to wipe, a bit like the modern 'rain sensitive' systems, apart from mine only work when its dry!

Spending £120 next week to get it fixed...

Hi Roly,
Nice there is someone else out there brave enough to take apart the switch. It's not designed to be pulled apart, but there was nothing that a dremel could not deal with ;-) It took 3 goes at reassembly before I got all the springs and plates to lie where they are supposed to on reassembly. I also cleaned all the contacts while I was in there and it works like a champ. Looks like your gonna have to yank it out and take it apart again. My orginal problem with was no screen wash, although the intermittent wipers would work.
Good luck.

Taj.

Roly,

That will buy (and fit by GT One in Chertsey) a new indicator/wiper stalk assembly. Keep in mind my car has an airbag and is this slightly more expensive to fit as there is more fiddling involved (allegedly).

Thats £68 for the part (964.613.338.0101c) and the rest is labour.

I think the cost of the part depends on what options your car has (computer, speed limiter) as I got a price of £170 from OPC for a similar part but for the RS (which doesn't have front light washers). Maybe its so expensive cause its an RS part?

By the way, these are 'dealer only' parts, so nobosy else will have them in stock. Mind you, Porsche Apart have one at the mo for about £60.

All prices inc VAT.

Hello Taj,

Yes - I'm feeling rather proud of myself <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Once you work out what bits go where, it's actually straightforward, if rather fiddly, to get the switch back together. Toughest things was how the indicator cancel spring assembly fitted. Whoever engineers these things is pretty smart, I reckon.

Riccardo,

I guess the airbag would make it a bit more expensive. I'm pretty sure the main body of the switch (indicator and washers) is the same for most of us (maybe not your RS) - the computer and cruise functions are separate 'bolt-ons'.

Roly,

There are different part numbers for each iteration of the assembly, each one of which depends on what options (and combination of options) and language of your car (French, English & German I think). Basically, when ordering you need to know your option codes.

I haven't got an RS (alas...) what I meant is that I accidentally was enquiring about the RS part and mused as to its more expensive just because it is associated with the RS.
