Question replacing A/C compressor

Volks,

I'm about to replace my leaking A/C compressor and I wonder if it's a straight forward bolt off/on job and then off to the A/C shop for filling the R12 or are ther other things to think about? Was thinking about vaccum of system and adding oil etc.

THKS

Not sure about the work involved but have a look at Vertex as they do modern replacement compressors which are more efficient than the original unit.

Dear Johannes,
NO NO NO!!!!. First of all you must totally evacuate your existing system as much as possible to remove the oil oil, refrigerant, corrosion, crud from inside the old compressor etc. Get the whole job done at the same time. If you contaminate your new compressor with crud you will ruin it in short order. There is a process or procedure for doing this kind of work. It is so easily messed up and will cost you, well a lot of money and heartache.
Ciao,
