Dear Joey,
Then I would recommend if you want stiffer to get the Eibach 964 RS springs or for bone jarring teeth rattling stiffness go for the Eibach 964 RSR springs.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: I purchased my springs in the USA second hand off a rennlister. They are there. You just have to find them.

Adrian

I am one of those people who have received advice on email privately from you. I appreciate all your work unreservedly. I am upset that my posts have been misunderstood.

What I meant to say was that I have not seen an awful lot of posts from you on available suspension upgrades - except to comment on your own setup and of course your idea how these things should be approached - i.e. if I wanted to know whether B6 Sport shocks go better with Eibach or H&R or Spax, progressive, linear or lowering springs - I wouldn't automatically think to ask you, purely because I didn't think that you had any interest in retaining all this information, especially when it it always changing all the time. I did not intend any slur on your level of knowledge or integrity.

My view is that for most of us (or at least me anyway), with our level of knowledge, it may not be as effective to experiment. Personally I do not have the means to change my own suspension components whenever I feel like it. I agree it will be cheaper to buy suspension components separately. But if I have to make 5 or 6 adjustments (i.e. swap out bits and pieces) before I am happy, then this is going to be 25-30 hours labour minimum at a porsche specialist. I'd rather drive a car with Roock, RUF or H&R kits to see if they suit me. If they don't, then I am one of the many people who will use your way to get where I want to be.

Anyway, please accept this is as an apology with a large lump of indignant hurt thrown in.

Dear Christer,
Apology accepted. What you maybe do not understand that myself and many others have already done the hard work. This is where my knowledge came from. Here is an idea always born from something else, in my case very high speed instability. Research, reading up, experimenting, fitting, playing around and then we share. See the work carried out my Jeff Curtis. By Bill Gregory, by Cupcar. All at our own expense, all at our risk and then you guys get to share the results. The level of expertise on this forum is much higher than you give it credit for. People like Bill, Jeff and myself along with many others are the modern day testers, experimenters. We do now the things that RUF and Roock did back in the early 90s. My comments on my suspension have been published in magazines, are found on the internet in pictures and I do comment many times on my own set up. However the parts I used for my C4 are almost impossible to find nowadays. There is no point sending people off on wild goose chases. The purpose built 8741-1216S front struts for the 1989 and 1990 964s are like rocking horse pooh. My comments on handling, tyres, sway bars, springs all related to my C4 are found all over the place. All the other data I have learned is stored. I have test driven H&R, Bilstein and Roock set up 964s. I will comment when applicable. However as any current or former racing driver will tell you. Suspension set up is very personal and if you want three opinions get two racing car drivers talking about their set ups compared to each other. Something else, if Jeff or Bill or many others say to me, this worked or this did not work I would trust their word over anything else because I know, they know exactly what they are talking about.
Ciao,
Adrian

PS: I very much doubt that Roock or RUF ever went near a C2 tip either. All companies in the old days had test hacks. This is how H&R did some of their work. Motor-racing was the other way. Bilstein are an old Porsche supplier from way back. As is Koni.

who cares about eibach and what spring works with what shock! Its all about matching the correct spring rate to the forces that the dampers will make!!! Springs are wound coils of metal, dampers are where the science is at! There aremany company besides koni and bilstine that make shocks for the c2, but what do you want to do with your car? cruise? race? auto-x or a fine blend of both..................

Also installing stiffer spring will not really make your car handle much better (just look a bit cooler) in truth one should always upgrade the damper to deal with the extra spring rate of lowering springs.........

In suspension handling is contro;ed largely in part buy the shocks the spring just help them work and set the balance of the car...........

Good luck to ya spend the extra money and get a set of good shocks, after all they are wear items
