Hey now! I take exception to ckkrause 's nomination of the '52 Plymouth. My first car was a '50 Plymouth convertible. Let's put things in context--it was a GREAT car for a high school senior and then college student. What could be more invigorating than putting the top down on the first day of spring after one of those horrible up-state winters? And it was reliable both around town and on many longer commutes, as in Syracuse/ NYC. Never a problem in four years of HARD driving (remember how you drove in your late 'teens and early 20's?). Well, there was one problem. After a night of making the rounds of the local watering holes, a friend in the back seat seemed to have lost the coordination required to roll the rear window down and instead vomited (big time) into the top mechanism. It wasn’t too bad during cooler days, but it was a constant reminder of that night when it was warmer—and especially so when the top was run up and down!

A 1982 Renault Fuego. It would spit out spark plugs on a regular basis, once dumped 1/2 tank of fuel onto the street. Stranded me several times.
Second, the Chevy Chevette I had to drive in drivers' Ed when I was 16.

A early 80's Dodge Omni rental car. I was stuck with it for 10 days in Florida. The brakes were aweful. It felt like the only stopping was done by the rear brakes. The electrical system was surging causing the headlights to dim and the radio to cut out. Seriously dreadful car.

Post by Sprbxr reminded me the movie "Dude, where's my Car?" , starring Stifler from American Pie.
The story revolved around a Mk1 Le Car in REALLY bad shape, which appeared only at the end...
Note for italian speaking Rennlisters: the movie was titled "Fatti, strafatti e strafighe" in Italy...

My money is on the Chevy Chevette. About twenty years ago we rented one in Florida. It was without doubt the tinniest piece of crap ever sold to the American public. The first one only made it about 4 miles before it gave up. Then I got the second one and, to my surprise, it lasted the entire week. Every night on the way back to the hotel I sincerely wanted to just drive it into the ocean so no one else would ever have to drive it. Not to mention the humiliation I felt at being seen in it. I laughed when I saw several other references to this garbage can on wheels.

2003 model Jeep Cherokee 4cyl version. What a piece of junk. I bought this car for my wife new and did not really drive it much, but recently I had a 400km trip in it and got sea sick on the way over it moved around so much. Bits are falling off, been in three times for recall problems. Stops after you fill the tank with fuel, A/C is useless on a hot day. NEVER AGAIN a Jeep.
