Stock Phone Wiring
Does anyone know what the factory cell phone wiring consisted of? I'd like to remove most of it, but I don't want to accidentally tear into something else.
Thanks!

Andy,
Tell me you're not trying to save weight by removing a relay and 7 wires? There are a number of other ways to remove weight that are easier than removing individual wires, if that's the drive behind your question. BTW, for MY91, relay R62 and the wires to it are for the telephone.

Ooooh, I was just thinking today how I could put my car on a diet!
Hi Bill, I'm new to the forum and so far I have learned invaluable information. I sort of titter/totter between this section and the 993tt. Lately I have wondered how I can put my car on a diet. Today I weighed my powered seats at just under 50lbs. each. There's a thought.
Any other items I can modify/delete. I do need essential parts like AC, radio, speakers. I chaned out my battery for one of those dry cell, yellow, deep cycle ones.
thanks, Jaime

Jaime,
If you search the forums, you'll find listings of what people have taken out and rough weights. For example, there's about 7lbs of insulation against the rear firewall and on the rear shelf where the stereo speakers are, and is easily removed. There's a bunch more weight to be lost by removing all the factory interior insulation. You're right, the power seat replacement shaves weight too. I have Recaro SRD's that replaced the stock seats, saving weight, and even gave me a little extra headroom. Wheels are another place to look, and of course has the benefit of reducing unsprung weight. You do need to consider if you plan on racing, as depending on the series you would run in may have rules. For example, if you were into PCA Club Racing, in stock class, you couldn't remove any part of the air conditioning system (you can disconnect the compressor belt). Taking the a/c out would save weight, and bump you up a class into prepared.

Bill,
"Tell me you're not trying to save weight by removing a relay and 7 wires?"
That thought did cross my mind, but actually, I'm just interested in getting ride of things I don't need. For some reason, the thought of those phone electronics just sitting there not being used is bugging me. Am I correct to assume that the relay, holder and plastic box that I found inside my center consol is all just obsolete cell phone equipment?
