Talking thanks Jeff Curtis - I conquered the tranny filler plug!

Tonight I tackled the tranny plug from *%$$. And I won!!

Using Jeff's advice, I used my trusty el-cheapo grinder from Home Depot and ground a slot in the filler plug, then used a cold chisel and a hammer and beat the heck out of the thing. After almost giving up for the night due to lack of strength (ate Burger King today and felt sluggish ever since ) I gave it about 10 more smacks and it started to turn! Excellent!

So, thanks Jeff - your suggestion saved me from breaking out the welder and making a mess, which was my next step! Thanks buddy!

Oh yeah - sometimes you have to show these inanimate objects who's boss....even if it just for your own satisfaction!

How did the oil look after all that fuss? It may the the factory fill that you just drained!

Springer it's not how the oil looked, but the piece of mind!

The oil actually didn't look that bad!!! I was expecting tar to come out of the case! There was a significant amount of "fuzz" on the magnetic drain plug, but the oil still had a slight clear/transparent element to it. It was dirty - not totally clear, but not as bad as some tranny cases I've seen and due to the fuzz, I was glad to change it...

The front differential on the other hand must have just been changed - or it's not hooked up to the driveshaft!!! The oil was perfectly clear! But there was some fuzz on the plug of that one, too.

Now I can rest easy knowing all fluids are new!

A little fuzz is normal, due to break in, and wear. It's pieces of bronze and metal bits you need to look out for. When I drain my fluids, periodically I'll use a paint strainer to check for chunks. Whatever can pass through that, I don't typically worry about.

Good to hear you got it figured out Garrett...as you may have surmised, I've "been there, done that...HATED IT!!"

As a good rule of thumb, I always tell people to make sure the FILL plug comes out prior to draining the trans. - wonder how I figured THAT out??
