Question What kind of insurance cover?

At this moment I am collecting some offers for the insurance of the C4. For the previous one I had the full comprehensive cover which required an expert report in order to establish the real value of the car back then. My actual C4 will not be driven too much, +/- 10tkm per year, so I am thinking of only getting the basic cover, called 'Third party' in the UK. The premium for this cover is very reasonable, about 550 euro without limitation in mileage.
Do most of you have this kind of insurance (third party), the third party + glass, fire and theft or the full comprehensive cover?

Absolutely not. I would be astounded if you find anyone who has third party cover.

Fully comprehensive all the way. Even on my rubbish daily runaround!

Yikes,

Are you serious?

Fully comprehensive, nothing else will do.

agree with fully comp, but try having a higher than standard excess/deductable to keep the annual premiums down a bit...

I always get fully comp, in the UK the difference in price is small enough to make it a no-brainer. There are so many ways to damage your car causing £1000s of damage, without being to claim off other people eg.
-Swerve to avoid a pedestrain and crashing into another car
-Come back to your car and find out someone has crashed into it and then done a runner
-Drunken people walking over your car for a 'laugh'
-Misjudging a bend and going off the road and through some trees
-Freak weather big hailstones, floods etc

You know it makes sense

Do not do Third party......it may be tempting to save yourself a few quid but if something happens you will wish uyou had gone for fully comp...with protected no claims!

Seems like fully covered is the way to go in the UK. Over here a fully covered insurance would set you back some 1500 euro or 3 times the price of a third party.(+/- 330£ versus 1.000£). The difference in the UK isn't that big I guess. I am anyhow pretty surprised about this. It's pretty common here to take only the TP + theft, glass and fire. Even for expensive cars. The previous owner of my car for instance didn't have fully covered insurance. I must also add that on my other (new) cars I always have a fully covered but I never had to use it during the more than one million kilometers and over twenty cars I've driven so far.
Tx for the replies.

In UK at least, most insurance company won't offer TPF&T to cars with value more than £4000. If they do, there won't be much difference in price. The way they think is that, if you had TPFT and crashed, you might say it's been stolen and claim for theft.

Quick update: From the 7 insurance companies I've contacted only one agreed on insurance for glass, theft and forces of nature on top of the Third party cover. The premium would be 750 pounds per year. None will offer full comprehensive. I'm subscribing to a Third party insurance now for 300 pounds

Perhaps you could try asking Dr Honeydew to take out the policy and you can be a named driver?
