Default 993TT Engine in 964

Anyone shoehorn a 993 TT engine into a 964? Any info on this would be helpful.

Thanks,

Don't know about the tt engine in a 964 directly, but Rennlister HarryD has a 993 NA 3.6 in his 964 (with 993 exhaust) and Hank Watts has a 3.6 tt engine in his 70's vintage car. I don't see why it couldn't fit.

I've read something about someone having a 993TT engine in a 964 recently. I thought it was on here but since nobody else mentioned it I guess not Maybe it was on Smartgroups which I check very rarely.

´So the irrelevancies aside(), why not take your car to reputable tuner and get a twin turbo conversion? I don't know where you are but here in Europe there are people like TTP that offer a TT option producing 450hp.....for around 30000euros plus tax. I think this would be far easier than trying to fit a 993TT engine....

Doesn't ttAmericaRoadster have a 993tt engine in a 964? That may be the car that DaveK's thinking about.

Low miliage 993TT powerplants with all the needed bits (wiring harness, gauges,DME, Etc) are in the 20-25K range - figure 5-10K for fitting and tuning & another 5K for a tranmission rebuild to handle the power and match the ratio's. and your there.
IMHO - i would put in a G50/32 6 speed and run it as it or wait until i destroyed the current tranny before replacing it. you can also remove the front drive portion of the 993TT tranny and run that instead.
Also you can fit the 993 4 wheel drive system to the 964 as well.
the costs sould be cheaper than purchaing a 993TT by 5-15K
YMMV & this all depends on finding a good motor at the right price.

Sounds like it would be cheaper to go along and see mr RUF and see what he could do to teh existing car

Maybe -
Christer hsa some more instights on the true cost of doing a 964 motor to the max (MoTeC, Etc)
keep in mind that the 3.8L kit is about 10K just for the parts, MoTeC or similar is 5-10K for parts etc.
Also 911 and Porsche world did a story on a 993TT motored 964 a few months ago.
they are both a lot of work

I'm in California and tuner mods on a NA car won't pass smog or I'd be looking at that. At least the factory engine will be, from what I understand, an upgrade and not a modification. I'd love to have Ruf do the car, but after the shipping and the Euro, its not feasible.

thanks,

But what about forced induction tuning...? Or do they not pass smog either?

Hi
I did it myself two years ago in the US, I put 993 TT engine in my 964 C4 wide body, it was more expensive then sale mine and buy a 50-60K miles TT and I did most of the work myself, I didn't buy a TT because importing used cars to my country is not allowed ,mine was imported new, I'll be happy to share my experience with you.

Don't Ruf have a Californian agent? In any event the legend has it that you don't ship your car to them, they (or at least two mechanics) come to you and do the conversion at your garage....
