I have a question regarding the wheel size from an Andial Cup Car. According to the website, it mentioned 9,5’s in the rear but no information for the front for the race car version. Is it possible to run 8’s up front on a 964? Or are they 7,5’s up front? In addition, what tire sizes can I run with the sizes mentioned above? Currently I have 225/50/17 in front and 255/45/17 in the rear on 993 cups. Can I go wider in the rears with 9,5's?

When originally imported from Porsche to Andial, the cars came with 7's and 8's. The intent was to move the 8's to the front and install 9.5's in the rear for the racing series. When the series was cancelled, they were sold at dealers with the original wheels (7's and 8's).
Later, the racing cars switched to 18" diameter wheels, with the same widths as above.
So, to answer your question, both wheelsets are technically "correct" for the car depending on if you are trying to keep it in original (as sold from dealer) trim or racing trim.

Thanks for the information. I don't have a cup car but I'm interested in changing my wheels to the sizes that were intended for the racing series.
JC, you mentioned they intended to put 8's and 9.5's for the racing series. Would these be 17's or 18's? What size tire is recommended for these widths?

John,
While some do run 18's on 964's, the factory never recommended 18's on the non-Turbo/non-RS/non-Cup 964's. With the right offset, you can run 8" or 8.5" rims up front, with one popular size tire being 225x17, and on the rear, again with the right offset, 9", 9.5" or 10" rims with 255 to 275x17 tires. As you go larger in back, there are potential rubbing issues to be aware of. You might do a search on the 964 forum, as this gets discussed fairly regularly.

In the racing series they started with 17's in 1990 and by 92-93 they were using the 18's. As far as the tires go they were Pirelli slicks and I am not sure how that translates to a street size. My guess would be 235 front and 275 rear.

the 92' cup cars used 9.5" ET 68 Rear wheels W/ a 10mm Spacer & longer studs on the rear. The fronts as said previously are the 8"'s From the rear of the car.
Also the Cup cars used rolled fenders to clear the wheels front and rear.
as far as tire sizes go i used 235mm & 275mm on the above wheels Yoko AVS Sports (which run large) you will have clearance issues in the front with the wheel well liner (depending on Neg Camber) and the rear with the outer fender (requires rolling) and possibly the oil line.
The 9.5" wheel can still be found occasionally but is really expensive.
The Carrera Cup USA series cars were set to use Toyo's actually (235/275mm) as they had already signed up for the series as the tire sponsor.

You guys are awesome! Thank you very much for the information. This is very helpful in determining my wheel size choice.
I'm definitely not going with the 18” option. I’m selling my 993 cup wheels so I can get the period correct Cup wheels for my 964. I will be using this as a track car and as they say, wider is better!
Thanks again…very informative.

Schubee,
I have:
8.0Jx17 ET52, 965.362.126.00, front
and
9.5Jx17 ET68, 965.362.128.05, (with 21mm Porsche wheel spacers, (477.501.701...available from Oaklahoma Foreign for $25 each) in the rear)
on my 92 Euro Cup car. For tires, I am currently running 245 40 R17 front and 275 40 R17 rear (Hoosier RS304).
Finding 9.5Jx17 ET68 Cup wheels can be a bit of a challenge.
WheelEnhancement in CA has them new for $900 each and you don't see them used very often.

To clarify, Pirelli slicks were used on the racing cars used in the European series.

All I know is that the 9.5's are difficult to find. I just got my set back from refinishing...came out very nice. I'll put those on and send the BBS wheels down to BBS in GA. I'm probably going to keep the Cup wheels on the car, as I like the look a bit better.
Hope to see you again next year at the track.

So the factory Cup Cars used a spacer for the 9.5x17ET68 whl? Did the later Euro Cups use a spacer with the 18" Speedlines also, or did the 18"s have a different offset. And if so, anyone know the offset?
My set of 993 RS 18" speedlines (8ET52 and 10ET65) do not fit on my 964. The fronts stick out too much (this seems odd, I would think the 52mm offset should be correct), and the rears hit on the inside, even with a 3/8" spacer.

Its weird, I have 8.5 on the fronts and they fit. However I have 10 on the rear which to be honest do not fit perfectly, but well enough even under reasonably hard use to warrant keeping them for now. I suspect that I might need another 3-5mm spacer or so and get the fenders rolled in orde rto make them fit perfectly.
