Do 993 Cabrio roofs fit 964's?
Hi
My cabrio roof has given up on me today (mechanism still fully funtioning!!!
)
However, the plastic window gave up this morning and putting the roof down created a 10" split (it already has two other 'taped-up' splits). So the time has come to replace the roof. I read a thread recently on replacing the roof, so i am happy to attempt this myself, however, i am looking at purchasing a 993 roof and complete mechanism, as i could conceivably just ubolt my whole system and replace it with the 993 system (apparently the 993 has a slightly different profile to the rear screen and looks slightly better?)
Has anyone fitted a 993 soft-top and mechanism to a 964, or is it possible, will it fit?
You thoughts would be much appreciated!!!
Many thanks
Kevin

Do a search for a guy named Doug H - he posted lots of pictures last year and his car has a 993 top on it.
Where did Doug go??? Come back!
It fits, but I personally like the look of the 964 top!

I have to agree with America. If you check out the offering from Cabrioworld online they charge a different price for the 993-look top for the 964 than for a 993 top. They offer different options for them as well.

We're saying a 993 style hood will fit onto your 964 mechanism whereas
I don't think a 993 mechanism will go onto your car - at least not straightforward, and as yours is OK why would you bother?
I've had a 993 style hood on my car for over 3 years now, can send you pics.

Thanks Malc!
Yes, i wasn't being clear. I have a fully functioning roof mechanism (original on my 964). The rear window has split badly and the roof is in a 'tatty' condition. I have been offered a 993 mechanism and roof soft-top in perfect condition. The owner has stated that it can be 'bolted' straight on in replacement of the whole 964 mechanism... but i was sceptical of this.
So, for clarity... the 'rag-top' from a 993 WILL fit straight onto my 964 mechanism, BUT a complete roof system (mechanism and ragtop) WONT fit straight onto a 964...???

No, it has to be made for the 964, but in the 993 style, as referred to by Rick964. I got mine from Hoods Galore - 0208 655 8200, (No affiliation etc)
Cost at the time (2001) was £745+vat and the regular 964 one was £525+vat.
Quality is as Porsche and I had it fitted locally for £300.

I have wondered myself about this application, due to the ongoing problems with my 964 top. I was looking for an alternative to repairing mine again, and had thought of a many scenarios including a conversion to hard top(fiberglass). Thanks everyone for the input, Myself as well as others will make good use of the info. I'll keep an eye on this post for more insight . Thanks, Duncan
