Did you buy it from the Porsche dealer, or a private owner? In either case, you may want to take it back to the dealer. Let them experience the problem first hand ( let them have it for a few days if needed) since it only happens intermittantly. Although it sounds electrical, it's anyones guess as to the source of the problem.

The first thing I would do is replace the DME relay. Since it is needed for fuel and spark, it could well cause this problem. The fact that the car starts again and runs OK means it might not be that - but I think it's well worth ruling this out first. It's only a £20 / $20 fix.
It might also be worth giving a few more details. When it stops :
- Is it running fine before it stops?
- This is not stalling as you slow down - it's as you drive along at a constant speed?
- I assume ignition is still on, and all the warning lights are on?

Well, I am uncertain of the local laws in your area but it seems to me that if you bought the car one month ago and you've been experiencing this problems for fifteen days( which is approximately 1/2 month) then it would be in your best interest to take the car to the dealer to have it repaired properly. I am also sure that everyone here would be in agreement that there may possibly be something that the dealer would do for you sence you just purchased the car from them. On the other hand, if you bought the car from an individual then you may be on your own and then process of illimination may be the cheapest way out for you. In any case you should at least give the dealer a call, just to see what they can do for you if anything at all.

Buy a DME relay. Replace the old one with it. If the problem goes away, that was your problem. According to everything I've read about 964s, DME relays are a common cause for a car to stop running (and, sometimes, to restart easily). If this isn't your problem, then you've got a spare DME, which other 964 owners seem to recommend carrying in the car for that day when the relay DOES expire.

Check out the battery ground too, like Tenn suggested, since you're troubleshooting. It is located in the luggage compartment underneath the carpet. If you do a search you should be able to find a picture of it as I believe there was a post on here recently regarding the ground becoming oxidized and losing effectiveness.

Hola Andres! Bienvenido entre aficionados del 964!
It is too early to worry!
If the car suddenly stops, it could be that your idle microswitch needs cleaning. My car also suddenly stopped when it was warm, and I fixed the problem by simply cleaning the idle microswitch with some alcohol.
If you just bought the car, I strongly recommend that you hurry up and buy Adrian Streather's book about the 964. That will help you a lot in the future, as you get to know your car.
Actually, I will go to Madrid this weekend as I have a job interview there on Monday. If I'm lucky, we might be able to take our 964s for a spin sometime soon.
Take care and let us know what was wrong when you find out.
