RUF Chip?

1. It's really not a good idea to "run" without the CEL because it may come "on".
The 964 DME on-board diagnostics are very good. To ignore the CEL, is basically
the same as ignoring other potential problems while doing a prevent maintenance;
Naive view - "Remove the CEL, and I don't have to worry about problems."
I've yet to discover any false CELs in working on 964s over the last ten years.
Continuous driving with a CEL may result in a damaged engine over long term.
2. Performance chips in 964's are not a good idea as most/all cause engine pinging
which may or may not be heard. This is because of the knock sensor system
which may be ignored or "pushed" with a performance chip. Check out this
web site (www.andial.com) on the FAQ page Question 2. If you're not happy
with the performance of your 964, buy a 993 or a 996.

I've got the RUF chip. Biggest difference is the 400RPM red line increase. Performance, seat of the pants variety, seems to be a little quicker off the line. My idle is much smoother (think its running a bit richer than stock).
No CEL (but I've got an '89 so it isn't a problem!).

Does anyone know where I could get a Ruf Chip? Carl or BaysideC4?
I have a custom chip, B&B headers/muffler, and a LWF on my 90 964, had it tested today to see if it will pass California smog. I was shocked it did.
Just would like to find out if a Ruf chip has a more noticeable powerband. I have learned that claims in gaining hp is not what one should look for, infact look for chip manufacturers that have a usable/noticeable powerband.
I believe since I have a B&B header/muffler (race exhaust system), LWF, and a custom chip I don't notice any gains from 1000-4000 rpm, but once the rpm hits 4000 rpm hold on, because the car feels like it has a turbo boost all the way till 7200 rpm. Powerband is from 4000-7200 all the way to the rev-limiter. Prior to this chip I had tried out a Weltmeister, which in my opinion is gutless. The Weltmeister did raise the rev limiter but, when the rpm comes close to the rev limiter the power is cut off or toned down. Anyway I have no idea why they would do that.
Thanks GP

gp964,
i found mine on e-bay. It came complete with good german instructions and really broken english ones (autotranslated from german I guess).
$125 was the final auction price.

DaveK,
What I like most about the 7200 RPM redline is that shifting at 7000 seems more natural. Maybe just the way I drive. With the 6800 redline I was constantly hitting the cutout. Now I almost never hit it.

gp,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2407929023 was the auction. It doesn't appear to be in the e-bay data base any more. the seller was berlin7481.

Looks like that seller moved on as he hasn't sold or purchased anything for a about 1.5 years.

Maybe his 7 negative feedback made him use a different ID.

Well then we shouldn't be paying more than the cost of the eprom and whatever it costs to use the postal system. I'm sure something could be arranged with PMs. Kind of like the great carrera cup airlift a year or two ago.
