Racing is a whole other learning curve. I've got friends who were wicked fast in DE events but sputtered in club racing simply because of a lack of 'racing' experience.
As far as a learning tool, I think a low horsepower, momentum car is a great starter car. I drove a 944 in a enduro and realized that I had gotten spoiled by horsepower. It was an incredible 40 minute learning curve for me as I realized that I didn't even have to lift in turns that I was braking in the 964.
I would love to drive a race prepped 993 (D or C class) to get a feeling if it's greener on the other side. So far the only 993's I've driven have been with the PSS9's and I wasn't very impressed.

Yes that will probably be me LOL !! I was just using the times as a measure of comparison to what the car is likely capable of in good amatuer hands.

Do you think your experience in the 944 made you quicker when you went back to the 964 ?
I've never driven a 993 either, but I bet the C class 993 3.8 RS version at 2800 lbs is a blast. The others seem too heavy. I'm tempted to take my 996 to the track sometime and see how it does. The C class 996's look like a hoot, but given all the time and money you would have to put into one, you might just as well buy a GT3 Cup.
I think that the 964 is not an inexpensive car to track. A 944 might get you a lot more learning done at a cheaper price, but there is something about the allure of the 911.
