Anyone with Turbo wheels on 964?
Hi,
I'm thinking on putting new Turbo alloys under my 964 as the Cupp wheels are a bit scruffy.
Does anyone out there has them under the car and has pictures of it and is willing to post them?
I'm not quite sure how those Turbo wheels will look on the car .....

Three Wheelin'
Toon,
Yes, they are 18". I can't really comment on the difference they might have made since I bought the car with the 18's already fitted. In theory the shorter sidewalls should make the ride a little harsher than with 17's but I find the ride more supple than some saloons I've had!!
Hope that helps,
Regards
Dave

Hi Toon,
I use to put 17" or 18" on my car (17" to go on track). There's a small diffenrence between both, especially on rear wheels, not only because of the size of the rims, but also because with 18" wheels, the pressure has to be higher on the rear tyres.
This makes the car more uncomfortable but the difference is not so huge. BTW, remember that if you want to go for 18" wheels, you should modify your suspensions to match, at least, turbo's specifications.

Toon,
18" rims were never approved for the 964. When the 964 Cup car's chose to move to 18" rims from the factory 17", they initially had problems with wheels falling off! I believe the hub's need to be upgraded to RS/Turbo items which are stronger & thus able to cope with the higher stresses caused by mounting the larger rims.

I think it is also important to put all this in perspective. Most people do not use their cars the way Cup cars are/were used.
FWIW, this has been discussed to death over the last 3 years especially regarding the 'additional forces' that may be encountered with 18" wheels. The problem is that no one really knows for sure I guess what is most important. Is it the weight of the wheels? Size of tyre? Type of tyre? When should you start to worry? Should you worry when you move from a 205 to a 225 at the front? This would undoubtedly cause there to be more grip at the front, and higher 'forces'....
If you want 18" wheels and you are not a trackday junkie, I would try to make sure that the wheels you use are as light as your budget allows, and that your suspension is OK (unless you want 18's for cosmetic reasons only on Sunset Blvd). There should be no problem with lowered suspension as such from a wheel diameter point of view - as the 18's maintain more or less that dimension, but of course 18's tend to be a little wider....so watch that....
Personally, I went for a compromise. I don't have Turbo hubs but I do have very light wheels. I also don't go on the track very often so until I do I am not going to worry about it.
All IMHO...

Hi Toon,
I have 18" rims on my 964. As I never will use it on the track I think it is ok but I also know that 18" rims were never approved for the 964.

Robert
