Engine wash

Well,
I clean mine against normal advice....I use Autoglym road tar remover, wash in with a brush, soak afterwards with a detergent, then power wash down till clean.
I then treat with Vinyl or similar polish and claen all the plastic parts..........
I'm told this is not good practice, but have been doing this for 2 years on the 964 and 8 years on my Audi 1.9TDI.
No problems thus far.
However YMMV
Kevin.

Not sure if it is a good thing, but I use WD40 to clean the engine compartment and it appears to work just fine. Of course it takes a while. :-) Wonder what other people use. I am a little afraid to use water and soap with all the electronix in the engine compartment .

I used an engine degreaser to clean my engine. The type you spray on and let set for 10 minutes then spray off. I wouldn't recommend it. The engine degreaser dried out the bearings in my cooling fan, alternator, and heater fan causing about $1200 woth of dammage. And pssibly more had i not brought it in to my mechanic right away when i noticed clunking noise comming from my engine. My mechanic advised me to never clean my engine again in that manner. He said the best way was to lightly clean it with soap and water by hand and becarefull not to get the saop and water everywhere.
