Sorry guys but could someone just tell me what this light is?
Wife just rang me at work and said this light is on, I can't remember what it is and don't have the handbook with me.

That's the brake pad wear warning light.

If it's not a bad connection then it must be the rears, just changed discs and pads on the front a couple of months ago. If I remember correctly there is still usually lots of pad left even when the light comes on.
At least she rang me this time, usually I ask if everything is okay and she says 'oh yes, that light as been coming on for a while'!
Obviously I need to drive it myself more often!

It could be worse. A guy I work with was furious last week - he's just bought a new car and his wife now has their old car. They've had it years - no problems - she has been driving it for 3 weeks.

Apparently last week she was driving up a hill and it started smoking badly. She carried on.
It made a loud bang
She carried on

The rad had leaked, temp went into the red (her husband "didn't tell her to monitor the temp gauge") and the cylinder head gasket is toast. When he asked why she didn't stop after the loud bang - "because it carried on going".
Probably done other lasting damage but only time will tell.
