I reckon you could just about remove it without taking the globebox out. I pushed mine in to check the power connector then it was fiddly to get back in. I was close to removing the glovebox but didn't have to in the end - I may have pushed the radio out in order to get up behind the lighter switch.

I forget exactly since I did this a couple of years ago. But I think the advice I recieved from someone here was to turn the socket abouta half turn and it should pull right out. It definitely required turning, donot just try to pull it straight out.

Can anyone update on whether Rick's advice above is the way to do this? I don't want to go turning it too much and shear wires off the back.
Mine is a bit loose - it comes out a few millimetres when I unplug the lighter so I want to remove it to check what's amiss.
