Default 964 Body Shells

Has anyone been following this company over in China, that is going to be making new 964 body shells?

It's possible that in some instances, a VIN will be able to be moved to a new shell, considered a replacement part. Maybe those with unrestorable or maybe people who want a coupe from their cab?

Better base for Singer, than destroying factory cars. Besides, they change VIN's anyway....?

I don’t think Singer changes the VIN. One of the benefits of a Singer is your million dollar car gets to pay a $35 yearly property tax since it’s a 1990s car.

Singer uses the original VIN’s for their builds. The car keeps its original title.

My understanding is it is illegal to swap vins. I believe this is everywhere possibly not in China?.

It would be nice if Singer could crash test these and use them for their build instead of depleting the remaining good 964's. Heck there is a turbo study built off a turbo of all things which is even more frightful.

Looking forward to reading about the massive lawsuit by Porsche.

I’m guessing it would be sold as a repair part, don’t think there is any legal action that can be taken for a replacement part. I could be wrong.

Porsche has design patents covering a wide scope of parts to protect against third-party usage. I can't see how this company will get away with replicating the entire body shell unless it's under license.

In South Carolina, we have to pay a property tax for every vehicle that we own every year. If you own the average new vehicle that is say $75,000. Your yearly property tax fee will be approximately $900 a year. But when you have a car as old as a 964 that price drops down to $35. I’m not aware of any cap on the property tax so if you had an exotic vehicle that you paid $1 million for I cannot imagine what the yearly property tax would be. i’m sure that’s why people end up doing the Montana tag thing. You can read about the story with Whistlin Diesel in Tennessee. States are finally going after people doing this, but in my opinion, they created the situation by not having reasonable caps, not using the money to maintain the roads, etc..

This was supposed to be one of the things that the creation of our lottery erased but like most things promised it never did. And our roads still suck too.

The Chinese basically copied the Su-27 and told the Russians what are you gonna do about it. I know totally different thing, but it doesn’t seem that like Chinese care much about patents and trademarks.

Hope it plays in our favor and some decent quality shells are brought to the market.

It's odd but they are considered replacement parts (the shell). They do this with Mustangs and some others and you had to have a legit body with a title to decommission.

Possibly under the right to repair laws. If Porsche doesn't offer a replacement body (they don't), maybe that's a thing?
