The motors on my convertrible are working but the gears do not seem to be engaging. I had loosened the main screws holding top to motor, to make sure all the joints were loose and then I greased all the joints.
When I then tightened the main screws again, the motors stopped moving the top even though I hear them working. (prior to this, top worked).
It is likely that you tightened the screws down without having the arms in the correct position - there are only two positions that the arms will be locked in - if you're not engaged properly, the motors can turn without actually rotating the arm. I'd loosen everything up, and look at how the arm engages the transmission (you'll have to undo the interior panel over the transmission to see this) so you get it lined up right.
There are some pictures I posted on the parts of the convertible top - do a search and you can see the grooves that the arm has to get into for it to be lined up correctly.
Here's a pic I found -I can't find one of the slots that the arm fits into - but if you remove the 19mm bolt, the arm can swing away and you'll see how it has to fit into the slots. Just line it up, and crank down that 19mm bolt - as Jeff Curtis would say - with two grunts.
