Cool Shell V-Power works, proved by tests!

Shell has fuel called V-Power. They advertise that it increases the power and torq, and it does.

Especially for cars with knock sensors [ self adjustable ingnition timing] is this fuel helpfull.

Germany has a 100 Octane [europe standards] The Netherlands has 97 octane, other countries have also different sorts of V-power octane. All of them give a performance upgrade. {Source: www.autovisie.nl ]

I didn't test it my self yet, but I will asap.

May be interesting for everyone.

As a Shell employee my opinion doesn't count but...

In the UK we have Optimax (which I'm pretty certain is V-Power by another name) and all the magazine test reports I have read have concluded that it does give a performance increase and is better for keeping your engine clean.

I don't use it all the time, especially at the moment with UK fuel prices the way they are but I certainly think you do get some improvement from it and with my Audi it seemed to slightly change the exhaust note.

Filled up with it yesterday - flags and posters all over the gas station! The marketing here that I've seen does not pertain to performance but to a cleaner engine - I figured this was the shell answer to Chevrons "with Techron"!!

Hello, here in Germany the V-Power Story is a never ending Story... what i read was that the 964 electronic has a octane range from 91-98 (nocksensor etc.).. so you have no advantage when you use V-Power 100 octane...or you must remap your electronic.... my 2 cent :-) so i don´t use 100 octane expensive gas :-)

Not in California. Most pump "premium" is 91 octane. You can buy 100 octane race gas from certain 76 stations though.

I notice the advertisements for it EVERYWHERE as well...have yet to fill up with it, want to try a full tank. Until then I'm still on my latest fill of 93 octane, topped off with 4-5gal. of 110 octane - so far, no pinging!

...and the car hauls A$$!

I have noticed a pinging problem over the last few months, the car's performance definitely degrades, so when I do my 93/110 octane fills, I reset the computer (easy with a kill switch ) and the computer goes back to FULL mode and the car just flies!

That would be WONDERFUL if I were to go through a couple tanks of the V-Power stuff and the pinging go away, just wonderful...and cheaper too!

Car ran well on it yesterday and today, but she's been running extemely well anyway of late (not sure why TBO) so it would be difficult to note any benefit. I filled up with a different 92 octane gas today however.

The majority of stations here in CA all sell 91 octane premium, this is the rating of the v-power as well.

100 octane for Europe is not 100 octane in the Usa. The number is lower in the Usa. There is a formula for that to converse that.

As a Shell emloyee I get discount rates for petrol/gas but have used it once ot twice but could not feel the difference. So I'm not bothered and save the money by filling the beast up with the cheapest stuff I can find!

Staff discount? It's alright for some!

I guess your fuel prices are slightly different to UK prices though.

Jm - what I meant to say was even with staff discount rates I find V-power too expensive as I didn't notice the difference in power nor in lower fule consumption.
I therefore fill er up with the cheapest stuff I can find ....

Maybe should fill er up with avaition fuell and let her fly ;-)

It's been suggested before that I try that one but last time I was at the Aviation office at Gatwick they were a little reluctant to let me drive my car onto the apron
