I use the Harbor Freight aluminum jack, which goes under my lowered 964 (got tired of having to drive up on wood blocks for the other jack). Normally use factory jack points, and use a hockey puck between the jack plate and car.

To do big stuff on the car, I use the Performance Products jack pad on the rear jack point to raise the car up (using a 3 ton floor jack) so I can remove the rear engine cover/tray; then I lower the car, and then jack it up by the engine case so I can place jackstands under the rear jack points. I found that to be the easiest, after trying to support it like Arjan under the rear shock mount - didn't like that since it sags a lot under the weight of the car - it doesn't sit very high...

On my 65 911, with its 40 year old engine case, I raise and lower it by the engine case all the time. So I guess I'm used to doing it that way.

One thing - it's amazing how much heavier a C4 is versus a stripped out 65 911! I have to really lean on the jack to raise the C4 - the 65 I can raise with several fingers on the jack!!! What a beast the C4 is!

For brake stuff, I just lift it from one of the jack points as seen below - and keep my feet and head out from under the car!

Warning!

I have used the factory jack. However, my garage has a tiled floor which gets very slippery when wet. On one occasion the factory jack kept slipping under the car. I magine this happening when you are under the car...
