My cage is welded at the four feet (two in front and two in back) where they attach to the sill (the second photo). The rest of the bars bolt to each other.

An update: I was informed this weekend that my cage is NOT adequate for NASA racing. It lacks a true diagonal cross brace in the main hoop and the side bars are bolted in using a non-compliant system. If I'm going to race with NASA/PRC, I need to have it reworked or replaced.

Tom - Where does that diagonal brace go - it looks like in your picture that it has one... no?

Sorry to hear... the PCB group is fun with NASA - used to run that a long time ago...

It has a diagonal brace from the upper left corner of the hoop to the right rear seatbelt point. It does not provide a diagonal across the main hoop which is what is required. Also (forgot to mention) that the bolt-in side rails are not to NASA spec. They need different bolting (a design issue) or I need to weld the bars into place.
