this weekend I wanted to clean the air condenser and the oil cooler with a pressure cleaner. In the end, I didn't do it because I forgot to buy a connector for the water hose...
Anyway, I got as far as taking a front wheel and the inner wheel arch off. In there, in the lower front part of the bumper, I found a triangular sponge. Old, and very dirty. Its shape fits the front corner to the grill, at the bottom of the bumper corner. Anyone knows why it is there? Should I replace it?
Take care

I had one--two if you count the one on the other side: I've been driving without them for over a year, and I can't tell the difference. I think they are/were there to control air flow? Anyone with a difference expeience??

You don't need 'em...I've been going for almost two years without them, since replacing my front nose, fenders, hood, door... ![EEK!](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
I think they were just insulation or vibration dampening of some sort, or maybe as the Mad Hungarian suggested, for airflow??![Confused](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Either way, they do seem to disintegrate like the hood insulation on 944s and such, how annoying...if it were me, I would be happy that the damned things dislodged and made themselves "available" for the garbage can.

If the sponges have no ill effect and can only improve oil cooling why take them out? There are some other pieces attached to the wheel housing that may have also been used to help impove the efficiency of the oil cooler that Porsche also included on the newer models for some reason.

Jason,
You are quite right. My question was because the sponges fell apart when I took them out. 10 years took their toll on them, I guess.
I just wonder whether it is worth while replacing them.

I was told they suround the oil coller keeping the air moving through the cooler instead of around it. I believe if you replace them you will improve the efficency of the oil cooler by directing the air towards the cooling veins. It probably only makes a difference if you track your car and need maximum cooling.
