My car had a set of aftermarket wheels in 17X8 and 17 X 9 and they never rubbed in street driving. My car is not lowered yet though. I did not like the way the fronts hung out about 1" further than the fender when looking straight down from above. The tires were 205's as well and seemed a bit stretched to fit on the rim. I have since replaced them with cup 1's 7's and 8's and soon to purchase a set of 7's and 9's off a 91 turbo. I think the 9's fill the fender a bit better than the 8's. I was tempted to try to put an 8 on the front to see if it hung out as far as the aftermarket wheels did.

Well, my MM Cup 1 Replicas (7.5, but unkown offset) and the 16 x 8's mentioned in this thread don't stick out at all. I would wager that the wheels you had were probably not the right offset.

I do have a 205 on the 7.5 Cup 1's, and it looks OK, although I am sure that a 205 would be OK on a 7 as well.

Just an update....

I got a pair of nice 16x8 D90s from our site Admin John D. The 225's V-racers just got mounted. My next Autocross will be 8/28, so a full report will have to wait, but I am raring to go.

If nothing else, the 225's will look a lot better on an 8 than the did on the 6...no more unsightly bulging!

For autocross, I think you're definitely on to something. The same size tires & wheels at all four corners should allow you to drive your C2 like a go kart.
I still won't get my maiden voyage with 8's in front until Saturday, but had something else to pass along.

This weekend, I had a chat with a C4 owner in my local PCA region. He is an avid autocrosser, and in fact, I had asked if he had any 16x8's available when I was still looking.

In any event, the point I wanted to make is that he actually ran a weekend autocross with 16x8/245's front and back (side note: He actually had Kumho's on the rear, Hoosiers on the front....he has two complete sets of track wheels/tires, so to go 245/245, he had to be bisexual as far as his tires were concerned!).

On a pretty twisty course, he was even keeping up with a handful of Miatas in the local SCCA region. He said he had never done that before.

So Joey, you go kart theory may have some basis in fact
