Nicely done. I went from 991.2 to 993, so I get the aircooled move. Sometimes I miss the conveniences of the modern machine, but I don't regret the decision.
In a week the complete suspension overhaul begins, so I treated the C2 to a few quality of life improvements in anticipation; Porsche Classic Momo, Swine 11 Reboot, and a Silverlake shift ****.
I am a serial offender and have many variations and generations of Porsches. Last year I was able to buy the same 964 I sold 23 years ago from the physician that I sold it to.
This summer I have my 911 Turbo Exclusive sitting in the carriage house next to the 964, a 928 GTS and a 1950 Chevrolet pickup (the homes garage has a Cayenne Turbo S and GTS in it).
I drive the 964 for pleasure more than the others combined.
The 964 comes to hand so effortlessly and feels so natural to drive spiritedly.
The steering, shifter, sounds and overall balance is driving fun in its purest sense.
Bravo Porsche for giving us so many great cars, and Double Bravo for building the 964!
Back in the day, my first Porsche was a '66 3-gauge 912. Got it in the 2010s before the bubble for a sub $15k price.
When I moved out of Calif, I ended up selling it to fund a house purchase. Maybe about 4 years ago I bought a 992 S, then a T, then a GT3, and then a GT3 Touring. The Touring was probably the closest to my idealized Porsche experience but living in Chicago, driving a fast car slow is more futile than it is rewarding. Ultimately, putting a big return back into my account, and owning something more inline with that experience I've been chasing just made too much sense.
Coilovers are about 2 weeks out, and then the work begins! I'm excited to see the KWs, I bought the V3 in the classic version, so they're all black/silver rather than yelow/purple.
The 912 would have been the perfect fun car and definition of driving a slow car fast. I am similar to you, though I still have my 992 T as it's a great daily and to my mind not too fast compared to the other modern machinery, but for the weekend runs I jump into my 964 every time.
My 964 is bog stock though as I love the fact that it's suspension is just too soft and hence I am always battling it at much lower speeds like a beached baby whale. Nothing beats the pitch and roll I get at such low speeds to give me a thrill without touching the speed limits too heavily.
