I was I intrigued by this mount, and like the easy access to the Go Pro. But I’m hesitant to mount anything that interferes with field of vision, especially on the track.

I do think it would be helpful to alert potential purchasers to the state law restrictions out there. Only 14 states allow windshield mounts with no restrictions. Eight states permit mounts with certain conditions, typically requiring the mounts be located on the bottom of the windshield on the driver or passenger side. The mirror mount up high and in your center of vision is precisely where these states do not want you mounting anything. The remaining states all prohibit windshield mounts of any kind.

As best I can tell, your product is only legal in 14 states.

Ram Mounts has a link that details the state regulations.

Thank you for bringing this up. So to clarify, RoadSpys don't mount to the windshield which is what most of the laws cover. Mounting one alone to your rear view mirror base is legal in the states on that list which have rules against windshield mounts. Each state has its own rules but they are mostly focused on attachments to the windshield glass itself, which is exactly why RoadSpy exists, so you don't attach anything to your glass. Mounting the RoadSpy itself is legal in all 50 states. This is an important distinction: When mounted, the RoadSpy doesn't attach to windshield glass and it alone can't block vision, making it compliant in all states. What needs to be paid attention to (both on public roads or on track) is if a device you then attach to the RoadSpy ends up blocking your vision. A page on our website discussing this issue is part of a site update due in the next few days but the following links and pics will be on it. These 2 sites have more detailed info on the rules in each of the states than the Ram Mounts link, which is very generic, the first one has windshield illustrations for each state:

https://www.brigele.com/publications...-mounts-status And
https://gpstrackit.com/blog/what-are-the-dashcam-regulations-in-each-state/

The strictest states specifically mention that nothing can be placed anywhere on the windshield, which RoadSpy doesn't. Some of these states then have very ambiguous language about other objects not on the windshield that shouldn't block effective forward vision. Bottom line from these rules is that they justifiably don’t want anything that could block your forward vision so their language fixates on windshield attachments including suction cup mounts but leave out exact wording of objects that could potentially block your vision, like sunvisors, which aren't mounted to the glass. Best practice is to just make sure your effective forward vision isn't blocked.

One way to make sure that visibility isn’t an issue for your particular device is to use the OuttaSight kit. It’ll hide a GoPro up to INSTA-360 sized cameras snug and behind the mirror, all or mostly all out of drivers view depending on device size. Many of the state laws you mentioned that ban windshield glass mounted objects go out of their way to mention the area behind the rear view mirror as the acceptable mounting area FYI so its not accurate that "up high and in the centerline" is where they don't want a device, its actually the opposite, that's exactly where they specify they want it. These are some pics from the update. Our advice is to check your local laws and, if necessary, use this convenient option to comply with them.

Do you have any plans for radar detector specific adapters - say for a V1?

Hi, yes the adapter kit for the Valentine One (both V1 and V2) will also appear on our site update in a few days. The kit comes with an extension arm so you can raise/lower the radar detector. Here's a few pics we got in yesterday that will appear on the site update, cost is $29 for the adapter kit. There are 9 other adapter kits for Uniden, Whistler, Escort Mag Mount, Escort Early, Passport, Cobra, Garmin Catalyst, INSTA360, and VanTrue.
