Interesting beast (964C4 with 993 motor)
Hey guys
In all of my indecision over an impending 964cab purchase, I met someone at a local sandwhich shop today that had a 964 C4 with a '95 993 motor in it. Fully converted,88k chassis, 26K engine.
The top was a bit "disconnected" (a cable was sitting there) though it operated correctly. There was some oil toward the front of the bell housing, but it sounded good.
The car was a repaint from white, and had some orange peel. He offered it for sale, 19K... perhaps I could get him down.
Sounds interesting, but I think it may have been to much fiddling for me... the interior and exterior were rough. I think I'll keep looking around though, got to find me a good one, it will be the last one for a while.

Yeah, I have to calm down. Ever go to the rennlist classifieds and hit F5 for a half hour straight ?
I wanted the red c2 cab so badly. The trick will be to find a car in good shape, sub 25K, and get a favorable PPI.
I was moreso posting this beast as I thought it was a cool car, someone may be interested in it.

Hi,
Please talk to Randall and I think he lives in the 993 forum more often nowadays. There is also a very good article in the Porsche & 911 World a few months ago about the convertion. I don't know whether you can get it from your local library.
The onwers as I see it appartently very happy with the conversion. Obviously, you also need to find out about how the job was done and was it done properly.
Happy Porsche hunting, I say, looking for a good Porsche knowing that you will get one is already fun.
Cheers!
Eddie

The 95 engine is the same as ours -- the Varioram didn't begin till 96 -- though the engine did have some lighter parts, hydraulic lifters iirc, and another 20hp.
Doesn't seem to me that there's much to get excited about in this car. Joe W.

Thanks for the advice guys.... Heh... this is no where the professional job that Randall did...
I agree that the 95 engine only brings a low mileage viewpoint to the picture, and perhaps eases some of the reliability concerns over the 90 engine (heads and leaks).
The truth is, I want to have some fun in whatever car I buy, and though I like to tinker (I had a 84 930 I fiddled with every weekend - electromotive dual plugs, g/50 transplant, big intercooler, etc.) I would rather not be tinkering with the less than fun items, like leaks and top problems.
Thanks,
DMA

Yup, my engine was installed by Hergeshiemer's Motorsports (I certainly didn't do it myself ). A very well respected shop, as So. Cal locals can attest. While he (Mark H.) took forever to install the engine (frustrating), I have to give him credit for doing an outstanding job. Professional installation, and zero conversion-related bugs. Which I think is pretty impressive.

Hey Joe,
It's a '97 engine. From a car stolen in Newport Beach on 2/26/98, the engine was recovered by the CHP 8/7/98, in Camarillo. Sat around until I bought it (from TRE Motorsports) over a year later.
