I was pleasanly surprised how easy the process was. Now my PDAS system should be good for two more years, according to the service recommendation! Then I'll be back under the car again, but with yellow brake fluid this time!!!

I hope you all enjoy! I always was curious about the Hammer and how it worked; was fun to get to do it myself!!

You know. The biggest problem I see with that tool is that YOU HAVE TO WASH YOUR HAND EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU USE IT B/C IT IS SO NICE.

Funny you say that - the Hammer is graciously "leased" so it's not mine - I wear gloves when working on the car so I would just take off the gloves each time I had to press a button!! That was the hardest part of the procedure, to be under the car with gloves on, turn the bleeder, take off the glove, press the button, then press it when it's done bleeding, then put back on the glove to close the bleeder! I thought of putting a plastic bag over it!!

My lease rate for the hammer is $25/week plus a huge refundable deposit. Garrett just proved it works for PDAS, and might soon be able to vouch for getting his deposit back.

I have tried its other functions on my C2, and I am quite impressed with the capability it provides. This thread makes me wish I had a C4!

Yeah, that is a GREAT deal there Paul, the deposit is warranted as well.

ONE question though, is there an option to operate the ABS pump up front that goes to each caliper?? The procedure described so far are for the longitudinal lock and the "other" one (I'm not a C4 owner...sorry!)

I have heard that the Hammer can operate the ports for each caliper??

Jeff: The ABS is one menu I did not explore on the C2. I need to do some work now (see related post), and I will try to see if the Hammer will help flush the ABS system.

Don't know if the C4 is different than the C2 (workshop manual doesn't hint at this) - but there is no ABS menu on the Hammer specifically. I have DME ( watch all the engine stuff going on - that's fun), PDAS, Heater, Airbag, and Alarm. You'd need something called an ABS 2-LED tester to diagnose problems with that system. The Hammer does not appear to do anything with the ABS system unless a fault code is registered, which shows up under the PDAS system (on a C4) - I am not sure if it would show up at all for a C2. On my C4, the ABS speed sensors will show faults, as would the acceleration sensors but these show up in the PDAS menu - maybe there is an ABS menu instead of a PDAS menu on C2's?

It is my understanding that the fluid in the brake system runs through the ABS block - when you bleed your brakes, you are pulling the fluid through the ABS system. I think that's how it works - but of course, I could be wrong!

The menu system lists "ABS" on the C2. My guess is that the PDAS includes all the elements of the ABS, and therefore does not need to be listed separately.
