Default No start flat battery/alarm

I have been away longer than expected or I would have disconnected the battery, which was flat as a pancake. I have a hand held battery/jumper which I connected, lights go on, start the car, starts right up and the alarm goes off. Turn off the car, close the door and open again with the key but now the car won't start and is dead as though the hand held is not connected. Check all connections and no start, no lights car is as dead as when I first started the process. Disconnect hand held, close trunk, lock door manually and start all over again but still dead.

Any ideas?

I should add that no lights come on when the hand held charger is plugged in, normally thay do once the connection is made.

So got the car started but it stalls out and dead again. repeat and same result; I would rather not drive the car to charge the battery and risk getting stuck miles from home. At least it cranks and starts.

You'd be safest getting a new battery.

Sadly, it is a fairly recent battery, last 14 months.

If it were mine I’d have battery checked for fault they usually just replace with a fresh one inside warranty and
additionally remove clean and or replace ground strap .
If the ground is faulty and some have been found to be it prevents charging of the system and battery ..
