It works! Thank you Tom this is really huge. Because of your kindness i’ll be able to take the 964 not my in-lawa Santa-Fe on my memorial day weekend trip to Sharon - which is perhaps near you? If so let me buy you a beer!
And dont worry all I will still attempt to repair mine. Ebay cancelled the order so I had to go to ali express… more to come.

Well It looks like I managed to repair this thing. I fastened the Mosfets to the small heat sinks with my little M3 screws and the original retaining clips then soldered (B- quality) the mosfets to the board. Bolted the thing back up and what do you know, the fan works as intended*
The major * here is that the fan speeds seem higher than I recall. I know the early (89-91?) cars have the fan always on including at fan speed 0. IIRC Fan speeds 0 and 1 are identical. This behavior persists with my repaired unit. However it seems that fan speeds 0 & 1 are higher than I recall them being. Now whether this is because my old unit (and the replacement Tom sent me) are out of spec or whether the Chinese Mosfets are subtly different in spec I could not say. I will have to bring my car to see the 964 Of Record (Rob's) to see how the speeds compare.
But I'm pretty excited to have repaired this little oddity. To my knowledge no one has before and, well, it feels kinda cool to do it. I got an extra set of Mosfets (had to buy 10) so if anyone wants to have at their Final Stage... they're yours for free.
