Default Carbon Fibre Widebody Shell for 964

New to this Forum and looking for any insights

I am looking to purchase a carbon fibre widebody shell that fits a 964. I have seen some carbon fibre shells for sale online in Germany but would prefer a supplier in North America.
I know that there are fender flare and bumper kits available in steel, fibreglass, and in some cases carbon fibre for widebody conversions, but I like the shell idea to avoid cutting, welding etc. and I like the weight reduction and fitament that comes with carbon fibre.

The car the shell will be installed on is being sourced still. The other advantage of the shell is a solid roof as it seems that there are a lot of sunroof Carerra's and cabrios for sale and I'm not sold on the fabric cabrio.

Appreciate any insights.

Interesting. Do you have a link to the German CF shells?

do those even exist here ? That is why companies like Singer start with a donor car which has a registered / legal VIN. That way they don’t have to go through all the testing and approval to be considered a manufacturer ?

companies like RUF which start with their own shell on some cars actually get a RUF assigned VIN from what I understand.

If you bought a shell where would you get the vin ? From the donor car ? I think that VIN swapping is illegal ? I guess you could apply for a custom VIN like a lot of kit cars do ?

One thing about carbon fiber is that it shatters on impact. Singer use's external CF body panels bonded to the original steel unit body. Roof skin, 1/4's and fenders AFAIK. I'm sure that OEM's that use it have modified it's use in street cars to minimize that, but I doubt that any pure carbon fiber tub would do well in any sort of impact. Might protect you OK (who knows?) but the damage would be extensive. Even a fender bender would cause extensive damage to a pure CF tub. Look at how F1 cars disintegrate when in a collision.

Like Das said above you can't legally swap VIN's and more than likely you would have to go the kit car route to register it.

I’m just curious why would you prefer a North American supplier ? shipping a shell wouldn’t be very expensive relative to the entire project cost. And you’d have to check with US customs to make sure it was fine. I imagine it would get through US customs. But I think more of your challenge will be around registering it legally.

and technically / legally it wouldn’t be a Porsche!!! . I guess it would be considered a replica like the Beck 356 etc.

keep us posted. Sounds interesting !

Sounds like he thinks he's going to drop a body shell on a frame. Not sure the OP understands what he is asking or what he wants.

OP if you have funds, what you are after is a RUF SCR

Here’s a possible Option, but it’s not the US. Many of the nicer CF products are coming from the UK.
