Hi guys,
Sorry to insist with this question and digging it out from "The silly little question "
In the search of a wire making a tiny barbecue in my 964 C4 year 92, I decided to go on a mission, (inspired by a few menbers here) and remove all the dead connections and wires.
Yes the car looks a mess at the moment .
Tank, HVAC, carpets, seats are out and looms are exposed .
So here is my request, before I do anything silly.
Does anyone had experience on opening the sealed loom under the dash board. Alias Anaconda ?
Any chemical, with a blade, scalpel rip it with bare hands from the top ...and teeth...
any ideas are welcome
Thanks a lot
Konstantin
Zero experience doing this. But i think you are insane....
Which makes this a perfect anaconda madness thread!!!
Looking forward to this one...good luck! Lots of pics....
My God a few replies guy , I felt being in the midle of the dessert without my phone.
Well thanks for your blessing , 🤣🤣🤣
I will then go for "The Anaconda madness thread "
If ever I succeed and will try to take lots of pictures
cheers
Hi
I was reading those a few moths ago, thank you ,
Those are what inspiring me to start, in these threads there a few very interesting links for understanding our wiring diagrams , hours and hours spend looking at those, I think I know understand 80 % of the wiring.
Early cars don't have this sealed loom.
If you really want to thin all of the unnecessary extra wiring, you’ll need to strip the interior bare (including pedal box), remove the ccu suitcase, front bumper, and the top of the engine. How far do you want to go?
Quite a few circuits have unnecessary wiring paths to cover optional accessories. You’ll need to meticulously make your own wiring diagrams in the factory style. Mistakes are rewarded with the magic smoke, potentially within some expensive components (ccu, abs, dme, gauges, harnesses, etc). Check everything 10x, then check it another 10x a week later. Then, say a prayer and reconnect the battery.

Hi Nick,
I am there, totally restaured HVAC, with aluminium bolts. All interior is removed, that was fairly easy as I have RS carperts, no rear shelve wiper, no center console anymore, the pedal box is out, and I have no Kneed pad, no glove box, no radio anymore, all switches are locate on the rennline delete radio panel, all the air bags are gone long time, my center panel, fuse box is a part. most loom are exposed,
I am next removing top dash, all gauges to replace bulbs by LEDs. And then remove unecessary switches and recover the gauges dash. I also have to drop the engine to remove the tin and replace with one in fiber. That will make room to remove some wires.
Well I may live alone he Anaconda, it seam to be a big headache.
The car sounds like a great project, what’s the current weight??
I too have been tempted to try and lose some weight from unnecessary wiring. There may be 15 to 20 lbs. of weight loss to be had, but as Nick notes the risk is considerable.
Hi Foxman,
I haven't yet had the chance to weight it, it's a c4 and I guess it's just under 1300kg (with its 75kg extra) , with front and rear carbon hood, bonnette, spoiler, no sunroof and poly rear and quarter glass.
Here is a shot of the car , sadly on flat bed due to some electrical issues.
In the mission of find a doggy wire I thought I may as well kep only whats necessary.
I am not expecting to save a lot of weight from the dead wiring, probably 2/3 kg, but I really dislike all those useless wires and plugs hanging around.
Cheers
Well as Nick said removing a lot of things is a must and even more to make room to work.
And also knowing the wrring diagrams and undestand well how it is designed.
I didn't know much to start, but after studying time to time for many months I start to understand it.
I guess early cars don't have this sealed loom under the dash witch make things easier.
