Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for the resonator idea.

Cup pipes are cheap and simple enough, would be a fun experiment!

@andy73 or @Ski Porsche What did you guys ultimately settle on?

My car came with stock cat, cup pipe, and swan neck. Sounded great, but I like to tinker, so I just added a Fabspeed sport cat. Honestly a little too brash now. Not necessarily too loud in terms of pure decibels, but it’s lost some smoothness and flat 6 character.

I was wondering if a FVD, Cargraphic, or Fister secondary might calm things down a little and restore some smoothness.

Just changed my 964s (coupe and targa) from stock config to:
cup pipe
cat bypass
stock secondary.
I have to say I’m surprised at how tame it is and it may be a little too tame. I think I would like a sportier secondary, but everyone tells me don’t bypass the secondary.

I’m in the same place. 200Cell sport CAT, Cup Pipe and a J pipe/Swan neck. I’m going to put the stock secondary muffler on to replace the J/Swan neck to see how it sounds. If it’s too quiet, I’ll send out the secondary to Fister to get modified. I love my set up now sound wise at idle, when I get on it it’s pretty obnoxious.

I have yet to hear the fister in person, but in my opinion, any type of aftermarket secondary muffler makes the 964 sound a little too much like a Subaru. I have found cat delete, cup pipe and stock secondary to be the best sound for the car.

Only other sounds I have loved from a 964 have been a result of a custom setup, ie new headers, exhaust design.

That’s mainly why 993’s sound better than 964’s. Header design.

Would be very interested in a sound clip if you can get one. I don’t have the stock secondary, so would have to hunt one down, but that’s probably not too hard.

Also - Are there any good primary options in lieu of a cup pipe? Would be nice not to put a heavy stock secondary back on.

I have tried several set ups and finally settled on:
Fabspeed high flow cat, RUF Cup pipe, FVD Secondary, RUF twin tip out pipe and it's perfect! My wife was in the car for 20 hrs from Seattle to Rennsport and its nice and calm with no drone to it. When you go WOT it gets throaty!

What's the FVD secondary?

Edit: This? https://www.fvd.net/us-en/9641110460...-approved.html

Been eyeing that, and also contemplating the Fister secondary. I have a cup pipe now and love the sound, but could use a tad more volume. However, I don't want to lose the flat 6 rasp.

I am currently running a gutted cat, stock primary and FVD G pipe.

It is not too loud, but at idle and low RPM's it sounds too much like a V8. Some people might like the throaty rumble, but its not my cup of tea. This winter the OEM cat is going back on.

I tried adding back my stock secondary this weekend with my Fabspeed sport cat and cup pipe, and it was laughably quiet. Crazy to think how quiet these cars must be with all original exhaust in place.

After studying as much as I could, I’m going to try adding a resonator to the cup pipe, a la @C2_trga ‘s experiment here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...up-pipe-2.html

I really like my setup now, but just need it to be smoothed out and less raw. Hoping this is the ticket. If that doesn’t do it, I’ll probably try the Fister secondary.

That's it! My wife and I just drove almost 13 hours straight from Glenn Ellen home and didn't even turn on the radio. But when you get into it... YUM!

Awesome! I've been hoping to find someone with this. Does it maintain the classic flat 6 rasp or is it super deep? Perhaps it's just the recordings, but the Fister secondary makes the car sound a lot deeper, and I don't want that.
