Light weight wheels?
What wheels do you know of -- 16" or 17" -- that will fit our cars and weigh less than, say, 20 pounds?
I"ve been looking and not having a lot of luck so far. TIA, Joe W.

I just ordered a set of 17" Jongbloed wheels for a 93 RSA. They are very light, under 20 lbs and strong. I think they are a sponsor of Club Racing. Everyone I have talked to who owns a sets of Jongbloeds have had no regrets - thats why I order them.

Joe,
Take a look at:
http://www.wheelweights.net/
The design 90's are light and cheap.
-Eric
90 C2
PCA/NER
(Of course, I can't get the link to work......maybe now....)

Hi, Eric. Yes, the wheelweights site is excellent tho I wish the guy had been able to keep it up for the last several years. The D-90s are a real possibility of course and I guess the lightest of the Porsche wheels for us.
The Jongbloed's are famous ... Do you have a weight for them? I've also been looking at some from HRP Racing tho I don't know as much about the company. Joe W.

Another 16" option to consider is the D92 or 16" cup wheel which came standard on the 92-on C2/C4's. I'm not sure of the weight (sub 20?) but they're often a good secondhand deal.
I think this Rennlist Classified is actually for a set of these (no picture). The guy selling them is PCA Club Racer, Chris Reinsborough, out of CT. Seems to be a good guy. We've exchanged correspondences since I was curious about his C4's race setup.
Maybe he can get you the weights? For $450/set, it's certainly worth considering.

Thanks, Joey. I've emailed him and will post the results.
The 17"x7 & 9.5 as found on the 993 are 18 and 19.5, too.
Does anyone have a weight on the D-90s?
Here are the "Real" (from HRP Racing) 16" wheels, a 3-piece:

I've gone the BBS magnesium route but in 18". These seem to be the lightest of all and still keep the "Porsche heritage" feel as they were standard on the air cooled GT2 and of course are used on many racing 911.
I still have my 964RS "magnesium" SM Cup alloys but to be frank they are not very light anyway due to their measerly mag content !! They are also all but irreplaceable should you have a mishap!

Weights using a double beam balance scale:
Fikse FM10's: 8.5x17=19# and 10x17=19.25#
Porsche Carrera Cup 17" aluminum, these are same style as RSA (8" is the RSA rear wheel) or '91 Turbo: 8x17= 25.5# and 9.5x17= 26.5#
I have been thinking about the Volk TE37 which is available in 18 x 8.5,10 & 10.5 is forged aluminum and around 17.5 pounds I am told. Available at http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com/volk-w.html and around $2500 per set.

BBS has a new wheel out in the GT magazine made for Matheny racing that is 18 inch and weighs in at only 15 pounds. Hopefully, they will one day have this in more sizes.

This is good stuff -- when we get enough together, I'll make up a table for easy reference for the future.
Julian, any weight on the BBSs?
Anyone have anything in 16" sizes? Joe W.

Joe:
He may be speaking of those BBS I saw in GT Porsche. They supposedly the lightest 18s BBS makes for a road car and they weigh just over 15 pounts. Problem is I think they only come in 8.5 X 18 and 11 X 18. May work if you have a Turbo, but I am not sure if they would fit under my narrow body. I am going to try and make some phone calls about these next week.

If'n you look at the first cover ad in the latest Pano, you will see an ad from www.apexspg.com which shows the latest forged BBS.
18 X 8.5" OS 56mm= 19# and 18 X 10" OS 65mm=20# for $560 and $599 respectively. The 10" on the rear would probably need longer studs and ~a 19mm spacer as well as rolled fender lips to fit a 964. It looks like this:

That is not exactly the same wheel that they made for Manthey. You can see the most difference around the hub area. Its looks close. I also quoted the wrong sizes.
The Manthey wheels are Magnesium and the 18 X 9 weighs 15.43 pounds. Now that the wheel I want.
