Default Power steering camshaft seal problem

So, while I have the engine out I thought I'd inspect and change the belt and the seal. The belt casing was pretty dirty so I cleaned it up, only to discover that the last seal was put in with some force.

Question is, can I remove the existing seal, and carefully file down those burrs and then fit a new seal? I think it's a reasonable plan but open to suggestions.
