Modifying a good car, my 92 C2 project
#31
I’m interested in a 2 piece rear as well As long as it retains the parking brake.
I started a thread yesterday about rear rotor options.

After a 3 hour drive last weekend on less than smooth roads, and the fact this car will not see the track much anymore, I think it’s time for modern suspension instead of 30 year old Cup suspension. I’m heavily leaning towards the MCS 2 way as well (have the rest you mention already) but hadn’t decided on spring rates yet. I have 600/800 now, and I drove a 993 with MCS 2 way remote with 600/800 and it felt really good, but maybe softer would be better for its new life. Not too soft though.
Would love to hear how you like the 400/600 when you get it. That seems like a good compromise.

Although I love it most of the time I want to try softening it for next season. 400 / 600 may be too much on Midwestern roads.
I've only taken my car out on the track a couple of times. Don't want to have someone bang into me.

I'm going to change my 400 / 600 springs to 250 / 400 over the winter.

Your car looks great and the interior is amazing.

I enjoy assisting at the body shop as much as the mechanicals. I get to witness some serious hack jobs that come in and the end product looks Ok initially but months later rust starts coming through. This was an expensive 73 RS clone done by a well known shop in CA. Hours were spent removing layers of paint and this is what was found. Sad to see and the $$ spent you could buy a nice 911SC or maybe a decent 964. Everything needs to be cut off and redone. If you have bodywork done make sure you have pictures of every stage otherwise you might end up with this under the fancy paint job. The lower welds were already showing rust less than a year after the prior work being finished. They also lapped the fenders and did not fit he panels properly causing the bumper to not sit properly.
Brake disassembly underway, just to be clear not by me although I’m sure schedule permitting I could handle the brake disassembly. The suspension set up is most definitely beyond my limited expertise although I did install air shocks on my 67 Chevelle in my parents driveway when I was 15. Haha
BTW if you need any assistance I am in North Jersey if I can help just reach out.

Cobalt;
Yeah that’s a cool thread I’ve checked that out before. Ive seen some bad bodywork too. I use a great shop down in South Jersey, Concours Autobody hidden in an industrial complex with a small sign on the door and that’s it, you have to know they are there to find them. Not cheap and not fast but amazing results and they document their work throughout and will reach out to show you progress and or issues throughout the process. I don’t anticipate much bodywork required but I am considering a color change at some point but the slate grey metallic is pretty sharp.
We are inquiring about custom hats now and researching other possible options as well. Let me know If you have had success with some custom rear rotors. The majority of the suspension and brake work will be performed by Main Line Motorsport in Exton, PA and engine, gearbox, and drivetrain will be handled by Dawes Motorsports in Stroudsburg, PA. Interior likely done by Brother to Brother in Medford, NJ.

IMO the Gray is a desirable color but it is your car. I am partial to blues myself but slate gray looks great on these.
As far as custom hats I have a set on my track car but the company that made these went out of business years ago. They also required the removal of the handbrake system and a machining of the tab so the hat and rotor clear. Weight savings isn't significant enough over the steel hat rotor combo but allows me to use slotted rotors. You might try contacting these guys. They are quite helpful and might be able to set you up with something. They are just up the road from me so if you need anything let me know. https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/i...?cPath=24#Hats The other option is upgrading to the brembo big brake system Spyerx uses. IIRC his did not require the tabs to be machined and he retained his parking brake.

Completely separate project that was unplanned. My track car is a 2012 GTS purchased from a fellow Rennlister and I am more comfortable with a full cage so........down the rabbit hole I go. Might as well eliminate the sunroof while I’m at it. The previous owner did everything else to the car including a full 997 Porsche Cup body So the cage, fire system and sunroof delete is the extent of the work I’m having done. The car had a 6 point bolt in cage built by GMG I believe but I went with a full weld in replacement.

Nice project... I agree with Cobalt that the slate grey is a desirable color on a 964 (not that I'm a stickler for originality). Why not just go with a wrap or the AutoFlex system for a color change which can be reversed as or when necessary?
